Finding sleep that night was as hard as getting a needle in a haystack. I couldn’t get the imagine of him hugging me like a long lost lover, and how he had kissed me so quickly and so electrifyingly.
There was no way to tell exactly when the arms of sleep that kept tugging at my sleeves, succeeded in taking me to the dreamland, neither could i tell why i had to find my new boss moving around with me in a very beautiful garden, hand in hand.
Early the next morning, I was still lying on my bed, snoring softly when the alarm clock by my bedside woke me up so rûdely, I nearly jumped out of my skin.
“What the!” I screamed in frustràtion as I stretched my hand to snooze the alarm clock, but my hand didn’t reach it
I tried again, but it seemed the clock suddenly developed a mind of its own, and was in fact, making movements on it’s own, because each time it seemed my hand touched it, the clock seemed to move back
It was for the best though, that the alarm clock refused to budge to my persistence to shut it up, because when I finally got up, stretched làzily for a few seconds and made to go to the bathroom, I caught glimpse of the time, and almost had a heart attàck.
“I’m fcuking late! Dãmn, how can I have slept in, the very first day I moved into this apartment?” I asked myself as I began to rush through my morning routine and prepared to rush to work.
As stated in my job description, I was to prepare my boss’s itinerary and ensure he was adequately informed about engagements that would need his attention for each day.
“Beside other duties that may be assigned you by the CEO, you’re to provide high-level administrative support and assistance to the CEO.
“You’ll perform clerical and administrative tasks including drafting letters, memos, invoices, reports, and other documents for senior staff.
“You’ll attend meetings and keep minutes. Handle confidential documents ensuring they remain secure.” The HR manager had told me, after the interview.
I already knew what was expected of me, but I needed my job description clearly stated, to avoid any form of ambiguity, abuse of privileges or negligence from any quarters.
My breakfast had always been a cup of coffee, and luckily, a coffee dispenser came as part of the perks the accommodation had to offer.
I gulped a cup as I pulled my shoe on and had to button my blouse on your way outta my apartment.
In all, I made it to the office in time, and was already drafting an official proposal, I knew he’d need for the meeting he had later that day with a major player in our sector, when he walked past me, nodded curtly to my greetings and made his way into his office.
I had been worried for a moment that he’d get crãzy again and make me regret leaving Namenda Holdings, but he just walked past me, without as much as sparing me a glance, almost as if he wasn’t the very same person that had flirtèd so shàmelessly with me the previous night, and even gave me a kiss to go with the hug, that left his smell hanging on me all night long.
I should have been thrilled, exhilarated and in fact spent the rest of the day jubilating that he knew just how to focus on business, but I wasn’t.
Yes, I was disàppointed kind of, that he was so formal and unconnected.
“Like didn’t he know that a boss and his secretary needed to be less formal with each other, to make their jobs easier?” I thought with a frown
He remained in his office, making calls, typing anxiously on his computer, and I found myself occasionally peeking at him through the glass that separated my small office for his rather luxurious and superficiously spacious office
I walked into the company’s canteen, later that day to grab a quick lunch, and was told that as part of the extras, the boss had ordered that my lunch be served me in my office.
All I had to do was call the canteen and place an order, and my meal would be delivered to my office.
And while I was feeling so cool with the presidential treatment, I was also informed that the boss also instructed that I never paid for any of the meals eaten in the canteen.
So invariably, my bills were to be merged with his, and sent to the accounts department at the end of each month.
“Sir, you have an appointment by 3pm today, with the CEO, Paula Limited” I told him, sounding as dutiful as I could.
“Ok miss Sasha, but that could have been said over the phone. That’s why you have that telephone, placed on your table. Next time, please use the phone” he told me calmly, yet sternly.
“Okay boss. I would have made the call, but I realized the mail I sent you with all the details you’ll be needing for the meeting today hasn’t been read or acknowledged, so I had to make a hard copy and get it here for you in record time.
“Everything about the CEO of Paula’s Limited is contained in this folder, and their current market value is also in there” I told him, trying to be over with what I had to tell him and step out of his office.
He nodded again, and continued what he was doing before with walked into the office.
I turned around and made to walk away, and was only a few steps away from the door when I heard him speak to me.
“Thank you Miss Sasha” he said, looking at me, so our eyes met and our gazes held each other’s for a few seconds.
“You’re welcome sir” I told him curtly, and walked briskly out of his office.
In the days that followed, our working relationship continued to Improve and I began to get used to his monosyllabic responses and compliments for the things I did.
And just when I was beginning to get used to living on my own terms without my aunt breathing down on my neck, Mr. Allen-Tosh asked me to prepare a memo, inviting all the shareholders of the organization for an important meeting.
I had always known that my aunt was a shareholder in Toshteck Limited, which made me wonder why she was interested in acquiring Namenda Holdings, so I wasn’t surprised to see her name in my list of shareholders to contact.
The invites were prepared as quickly as I could,and sent tthem for preview, and got the mails dispatched later that day.
