π«π Trapped Part TEN:
Tekena didn’t come back until late afternoon and when he did, he was dishevelled. His clothes were rumpled, he had a tired look on his face that show that he had been working hours.
“Finally you are here. I was getting ready to go and what happened you?” I asked as I noticed a cut above his eyebrow.
“I went to the police station” he say beside me.
“Why? Is everything alright?”
“Yes everything is alright now that he is going to spend at least six months in the cell”
What? Who?
“Who are you talking about?”
“Your husband Andre. I heard your phone call and decided to punish him for what he did”
While that felt alright, I was maddened by the fact he took such decision without my consent, I’ve not even got to the part he eavesdropping on me, on my conversation.
“Why did you arrest him without my permission, you had no right?” I said icily.
“He had no right to treat you the way he did, so he had to pay for it, I made him pay for it.”
“I want you to withdraw the case”
“I will not withdraw the case until he has suffered for every single thing you have ever done to you” Tekena said stubbornly.
“For heaven’s sake!” I yell. A sharp pain rippled through he back of my head, warning me to keep my emotions in check but I ignored the pain.
“He has children, he is expecting a child anytime soon. A newborn baby and I cannot let the children suffer for what their father did. At least he has to be around to enjoy his children that’s all he has ever wanted and that is why he hates me. You keeping him away from his children is just going to make things worse so please for the love of God and man, withdraw the case.”
Tekena was stunned for a moment and when he spoke it was not in my favor.
“I know I understand your point but this has to be done he has to go to jail for what he has done”
“I asked for a divorce. I’m going to be free from. There is no need for all of this”
Tekena nodded.
“If you say so I’ll withdraw the case. I’ll go and ask the doctor if it’s okay for you to be discharged” he stood.
“Thank you. I promise to pay you back”
“You don’t have to pay me”
I was discharged that day and Tekena took me to one of his houses after I insisted on getting my things from Andre’s house which I did. I met Diane in the house but she didn’t bother me, in fact she helped me pack and was rather gay about me leaving.
I thought he would stay with me but he said he was going to go back to his other house to give me privacy which I was grateful for.
It was a bungalow with three rooms and half furnished but it had a bed and a functional kitchen. I was better than going back to Andre.
Tekena did as he promised and withdrew the case, he even got me secretary job at his friends company which I enjoy so much because I never got the chance to work when I was with Andre. Two weeks later I got a divorce letter from Andre and I signed it without thinking twice.
But after signing it I was now conflicted with a new thought. For most of my life I was a married woman who had to be dependent on her husband for everything now.. I’m alone, independent. Who would marry me? I’m a divorcee and I’m barren, what sort of man would marry me.
“I will marry you” Tekena said from behind me.
“What?” I turn to him. He was looking as handsome as ever with a loose button shirt and office trousers.
“You were saying all that aloud” He came closer.
“You can’t marry me. I’ll just put you in pain”
“What pain?”
“I’m barren, I can’t bear you children and I know that would be maddening for any man”
“God will give us children at the right time. Please, will you marry me, Kate”
I would be lying to myself if I say I haven’t fallen in love with him and he has treated me better than anyone has in a long time.
“I’ll marry you”
