π€· The Witch’s Daughter Chapter Six:
The traditional wedding passed well. I had already done the civil marriage. What was left now was the white wedding. All through the traditional wedding ceremony to my new wife Betty, I was hoping for some sort of interruption from Lily. None came however, much to my relief. I was so happy that she didn’t didn’t show up. I had spent the whole ceremony being edgy and nervous and looking over my shoulders all the time. Thank God she didn’t come to mess up things up for me.
I was thinking that she had finally relented and had gone back to the village or anywhere else to forge a life for herself. However, that was not to be. She had more diabolic and fiendish punishment for a false-hearted buzzard like me. She was a witch’s daughter with a dark soul and wouldn’t accept defeat so easily. Talking of souls, the covenant I made with her when I was a child had given her access to my soul. It would have been wise to tell my family everything long ago. I might have been taken to a church to get the bond broken. But I hadn’t.
One day, I was in bed with my wife. Both of us were asleep when like a hallucination, Lily appeared in my bedroom. She was not in her normal human form. She looked like a witch and there was fire in her eyes. I tried to scream but I couldn’t. My wife was sleeping just inches from me. However, I couldn’t even stretch my hand and wake her to come to my rescue. My whole body was frozen and cold. She stretched her hand forward and touched me. Immediately, I saw my spirit left me, just like it had happened several times in my dreams, only that this time it was real. My spirit went with her to a place I could not describe. However, it looked like the afterlife.
“Why am I here?” My spirit asked her. “What have you done to me, Lily?” I asked, shivering.
“I have taken what belongs to me. Now we are together and nothing will ever separate us again.” She gloated.
“What? You mean I am dead and this is the end of me?” I asked.
“Yes. it is the end of you as you knew it. But it is the beginning for us; you and I. It is a new beginning.”
“Please, let me go.” I begged. “I don’t belong with you. I belong to my wife, my lovely wedded wife, Betty.”
“You are wasting your time. Betty is very far from you now. She can’t hear you and neither can you hear her. You are in another dimension now.” She was taunting me.
“How about my body? My body is still lying in my home. What will become of my body?” I asked.
“You will be buried. What’s the big deal? You brought this unto yourself by breaking our promise to each other. I warned you, Sammy. I warned you. I never wanted for things to go this way. Look at what you have made me do?” She was trying to play the victim.
I couldn’t believe what was happening to me. I was literally dead. All my dreams had ended. My new wife would be a young widow. I could imagine the pain she would go through. Worst of all, she was pregnant for me. She was carrying my unborn child. So my child will never see her dad? Oh my gush! This was not happening. Just yesterday I was with my family, in my home and now all was lost? My old dad; oh, my old dad and my poor mum. This will literally kill them. What have I done to myself?
“But you are still human and I am a spirit now. How do we get married. How do we be together?” I asked her.
“I understand that and I already have a plan for that. Actually, that is my next move. I intend to wait until you are buried. I will then use my magical powers to resurrect your body, unite it with your spirit, take you very far away to somewhere we will live happily ever after.” She explained with glee. There was an evil sparkle in her eyes.
Back in my home, it was morning now. My wife had tried to wake me up without success. I was as cold as a stone. Alarmed and frightened, she had called my father. My father had taken me to a hopsital where I was pronounced dead on arrival. My family was inconsolable. My wife and mother both passed out when they were told of the news. My body was deposited at the mortuary, awaiting burial.
My dad however, had decided that he wouldn’t allow his only son die like that. He decided that he would visit a soothsayer and find out what happened to his son. he decided that I wasn’t going to be buried until he had got to the bottom of what happend to his only beloved son. A decision that angered Lily who had been closely watching the whole thing from a distance. Her plans were being delayed and she felt frustrated and decided she had to do something faster.
