One fine Friday, my fiancee called me that she was on her way. I quickly put things together and arranged the whole house. I made sure I removed any trace of Ariel just to avoid any suspicions. Two hours later, she was home and I was very happy to see her. However, I knew my happiness was short-lived because at any moment, I knew Ariel would show up and trouble would start.
That night, we slept late, my fiancee and I. We had a lot to talk about since we hadn’t seen each other in a while. Many times during our discussion I had tried to let her know about my involvement with Ariel. However, I couldn’t summon the courage to. We slept finally after a good catch-up sex.
The next day was Saturday and I wasn’t going to work. I was a hundred percent sure that Ariel would come to the house to look for me. However, just like the second coming, I wasn’t sure when she was going to show up. My fiancee whose name was Lilian had cleaned, made breakfast and did some washing. We were now comfortably sitting in the living room when I heard a knock at the door. I told Lilian to go and see who was there while I took refuge in the bedroom. From the bedroom, I could hear two females quarreling and arguing. You guessed right. It was Ariel and Lilian.
“What are you doing here?” I heard Lilian asked.
“I came to see my teacher.” Ariel said. “Who are you?”
“I am his fiancee. Why are you coming to see your teacher at his house on a Saturday? Is this where your school is?” Lilian asked. From her voice, I could guess correctly that she was very angry.
“I owe you no explanations.” Ariel said, rudely. “I came to see him not you. Where’s he?”
“I am sorry, you can’t see him.”
“Why?”
“Because he is not available.”
“Please, if he is home, I want to see him.” Ariel insisted.
“Why are you so insistent on seeing him? Do you have anything going on with him? Are you dating him?” Lilian asked.
“I am not.” She lied. “But if I want to, I will do so and you can’t stop me.”
When Ariel said that, Lilian got mad and came straight to the bedroom , looking for me. She was screaming my name at the top of her voice. I had taken cover in the wardrobe and it took her about forty seconds to figure out where I was. When she saw me, she gave me a series of hard knocks on my head and slaps on my face.
“Cheat!!!!” She exclaimed. “Useless cheat. Come outside, you have a guest.”
“A guest? You mean I have a guest?” I asked, feigning ignorance.
“Yes, your student love. So this is what you have been doing in my absence?!”
“In your absence? No. What are you talking about?” I was still claiming to be ignorant.
She half dragged me to the living room where Ariel was now comfortably seated. I couldn’t believe my eyes. My worst fears had come true. What was I going to do. Not that I didn’t know this would happen sooner or later. I knew it was just a matter of time before there was a confrontation between Ariel and Lilian.
However, the case was different. Ariel was no ordinary human while Lilian was. The worst part of it was that Lilian didn’t even know who she was dealing with.
“Hi there, Ariel.” I called. “You came for the class? I thought I told you I cancelled it?” I was trying to tell Ariel with my eyes to cooperate.
She refused.
“Cut the crap, Jim.” She said. “You know I am not here for any class. You are my boyfriend, my lover. I would have loved to keep it between us but the attitude of this your low life fiancee has forced me to reveal everything. There is nothing to hide anymore. I have broken the coconut, let’s eat together.”
“You see, she even calls you by your name. Jim, is this your life? So this is what I deserve for travelling all the way just to come and see you? Dragging you with a student?” That was Lilian talking.
“You haven’t seen anything yet.” Ariel mocked.
“The worst is around the corner.”
“Don’t answer back, Ariel.” I managed to have the courage to say. “At least you should have the decency to stay silent.”
Ariel could hardly believe the fact that I seemed to be taking sides with Lilian. She got very angry and decide to leave. I was scared of her, no doubt about that. But the presence of Lilian gave me some courage. They say a drowning man catches a straw.
“I can see you are supporting your fiancee, lover boy.” She said. “I am going, but just know that you have just unlocked the gates of hell. I will deal with you both.” Have said this, she left in anger.
When she left, Lilian started crying. She cried all afternoon and all evening and refused to talk to me. When night came, she went to the bedroom and slept with her back facing me. I made sure I didn’t dare touch her that night. Instead, I lay on the bed and tried to device a strategy for getting rid of Ariel. I fell asleep without knowing.
Next thing I knew saw Ariel. She was naked and she was sleeping beside me on the same bed. However, I couldn’t see Lilian, my fiancee. Ariel was asking me to come to her, but each time I tried to go close to her, I realized that my soul was leaving me while my body remained on the same spot. I shouted and woke up. It was a dream.
When I woke up, I realized that Lilian was struggling and fighting in her dream. I stretched my hand and woke her. She jumped and clung to me in fright, in spite of the fact that she was still angry with me.
“What is the matter, baby?” I asked.
“It was that your student, Jim. I saw her in my dream. She was flying with me in a strange land and when we got high up in the sky she dropped me. I fell for a long while and I was about to hit the ground when you woke me.” She was weeping.
“Jesus Christ!!!” I exclaimed. “Are you sure it was her? Are you sure you saw her clearly.” I asked, though I knew she was sure about what she saw.
“Yes, baby. I saw her but she was different. Something wasn’t right about her.” She said.
“What was it that wasn’t right about her, Lilian? Please tell me.”
“She, she, she had wings. Huge, black leathery wings like those of a bat and she was naked.”
I now realized that Ariel had started manifesting her powers. She was angry and jealous and was bent on torturing Lilian and I. I was so depressed and regretted all my actions and my involvement with a spirit. She was attacking us in our dreams now. How long will it take before she starts attacking us physically? I decided that somehow, I had to join with my fiancee, Lilian to fight her. It will be spirit against human. She was powerful but we had our God. The battle line had been drawn.
