π«π The Choice I Made Episode Five:
The next day in the afternoon Preye waited for her mother to bring up the conversation about what she told her concerning what Blessing told her but the discussion is not forthcoming from her mother. Preye went to her mother where she tied Victory at her back and was measuring periwinkles they will sell the next day.
Mama, you have not said anything concerning what Blessing told me. She’s very serious about it and she told me to discuss it with you. Mama, please don’t say no. This time around won’t be like before I promise you. Immediately I get there my first salary will be for you and my second salary will be for Victory. Mama, are you hearing me?
I’m hearing you. Preye’s mother answered.
Mama, say something na so that if she calls back I will have answers to give her. Preye said.
If she calls again tell her your mother refused. Preye’s mother said.
No mama, please. Mama is Blessing my friend we are talking about. If there isn’t something there she wouldn’t have been inviting me. I will be calling you often so you won’t feel my absence. I will also buy you that phone that sees the person you are speaking with so that you will be seeing me each time I call you. Do you hear Mama?
Victory is barely a year and two months. How do you do it, are you taken him along?
Haaa! Mama, you have been the one taking care of Victory since he was born. He is more of your son. I always know you can take care of him that’s why I want you to permit me to go.
Hmmm, Preye, bitter cola doesn’t taste as it sounds. I’m not saying Blessing is lying to you. No, I’m only telling you that things are not as it seems. Apart from Blessing who else do you know there in case something goes wrong?
Nothing will go wrong I know that. Preye said.
I know what I’m saying. But why didn’t she take her sister, what did you call her name? Preye’s mother asked.
Do you mean Dagogo? Preye asked.
Yes, Dagogo.
Mama, when we were in the City did she bring her to the city? She is used to me as her sister. Dagogo is not her only Sister oo she has another sister living with somebody in Port Harcourt. That one is their last born she is
still in secondary. Even if she plans to take Dagogo it won’t be now because of their last born.
Preye, I’m not convinced. My heart is so cold about this traveling. You can go back to the city where you were and start your sales girl or look for nanny work. I will take care of Victory but you see that country? You will not go there and we will not talk about this again. Preye’s mother insisted.
Preye started crying and left her mother. She flashed Blessing on the phone Blessing called her back immediately. She lied to Blessing that her mother has permitted her. Blessing was excited too and asked her when she will be coming. Preye who is eager to leave the village said she is ready today to leave but she doesn’t have money. Blessing told her to get prepared she will be sending her two hundred thousand and she should give her mom fifty thousand and use the rest and buy nice wears for herself and the remaining for her transport.
It wasn’t up to two weeks. Blessing sent two hundred thousand to Preye. Preye started making secret preparations. After she has bought all the things she needs. She informed Blessing that all is ready. A Blessing sent her direction on how she will get to Lagos and also sent her driver’s phone that will pick her up and the rest of the other people entering the country. Blessing asked her to give her phone to her mum to speak to her. Preye lied again that her mother traveled to her father’s town with Victory.
One week later Preye ran away from the village to Lagos. She left a hundred thousand for her mother where she will see it. When her mother noticed Preye has made away with her things she called her immediately. Preye picked.
Preye, can you hear me, where are you?
Mama, I’m on my way to Lagos I’m traveling to where Blessing is.
Preye, come down from that car and start coming back home now before I get angry with you!
Mama, I left a hundred thousand for you on top of your Bible. Don’t worry before that one finishes I will send you another one. I can’t hear you well the network is not friendly.
Preye hung up the call and switched off her phone at that moment. Preye’s mother kept calling but the number wasn’t connecting. She cried and tied Victory at her back and ran to Mama Boma’s house because Mama Boma is her only friend she can always cry to.
Stop crying mama Preye. With the story you have told me I think she will be safe. She’s not going there to die. The friend she is going there to meet is not even a man. is her bosom friend she has known for a long time. Don’t cry let’s wait to know if she will call again. Mama Boma consoled her friend
My spirit doesn’t accept her traveling! My spirit doesn’t at all. I warned Preye. I pray nothing happens to her on the way. Preye’s mother cried.
Be positive nothing will happen to her. Mama Boma assured her.
Five days later, a + number called Preye’s mother.
Mama, good evening. It’s me Preye.
Preye! Preye where are you? Preye, please come back home ever since you traveled I’ve been having bad dreams about you.
Hahaha! Preye laughed on the phone. Mama, I’m good here. In short, Mama here is just where everything wrong will be made right. I have seen the light you always say we will see someday. I will call you again when I get my number. This isn’t mine. Please mama don’t cry again before you invite sickness to yourself. Preye said and hung up the phone again
