π€· Solo Mum Part Five:
“If you had listened to me from the beginning all these wouldn’t be happening” Fun said. I sat down as she carried her wailing toddler.
“I talked to them but they just found more reasons to insult me. I’m beginning to think that they love Christopher more than me” I was tired and exhausted.
“They love Christopher because he is their father. In my opinion Christopher isn’t a bad man, he was just going through a lot at that time in his life and he couldn’t cope”
“What would you have me do?” I asked, slouching against my seat.
“First of all remove the hate, whatever Christopher must have done to you forgive him. If you want your children to respect you, you should respect the person they are close to and while you are busy respecting him do well to ask for some advice”
That was what Fun said and I knew what to do. I called Christopher and asked if we could talk. He offered me to his home but I didn’t want to go that kind of environment, you couldn’t measure my shock when he said he has moved to the island. He gave me the address and I made some time to visit him.
Christopher’s house wasn’t as big as mine but it was more than decent for a single man. I asked him what he was doing and found out he was now a managing director of an advertisement firm. I was shocked and couldn’t stop wondering if I was really his hindrance to success.
I nagged him a lot but it was not in any way to ridicule him but to strengthen him but I was wrong, I was just weighing the poor man down.
We talked and for my sake he didn’t taunt me like I expected him to. At Lea I know that is what I would have done.
“After the divorce, I didn’t have access to the children for a long time but when I did I was heart broken” he told me.
“I heard that you had moved on nicely and you were offered a job with a fat salary and the nature of the said job took you away from home but I didn’t see the impact it would have on the children until I saw Karen at a club, she was happy and ashamed to see me which was okay for me. I invited her over to my house and just like that the rest followed. Apart from the fact they are a bit stubborn they are still children forced to live like adults.
“I’m not saying this to ridicule you because I can understand how tough it must have been for you but if you are willing to change your work pattern or create more time for time it will go a long way”
I took these advice to heart and it made me think about what kind of person I was. I blamed my kids for being deliquency but I am guilty as they were.
I didn’t give up my job, hell no, I loved my job but I had spoken to my boss about my situation and bless his soul he worked out something that might work for me.
The relationship with my children wasn’t that great but with time we could talk to each other without shouting.
Now they are on their way to university and I was still afraid that distance will break the little relationship we’ve built.
THE END…!!!
