“You are pregnant??” I asked. “What are we going to do about it?”
“You are the man. You should decide.” She sent the question back to me.
I didn’t know what to say. I got up from the chair I was sitting on and paced around the room for a while. I sat down again after I had come up with a decision.
“Let’s have the baby.” I said.

“Do you know we are both still students? How are we going to be able to take care of this child?” She quizzed.
“There is always going to be a way. You can go live with my mum until you give birth. I will begin the Advanced Level GCE in four days. When I am done, I can get something doing to take care of you and the kid.” I explained.
“You are stark raving mad.” She said angrily. For starters, I don’t want you to drop out from school. I don’t want to drop either.”
“What do you propose we do then?” I asked.
“We have to get rid of it.”
“I don’t want to be involved in abortion. I am scared. What if something happens to you? What if you die?” I was seriously concerned now.
“Nothing is going to happen to me. I am just about ten days gone. There is no harm.” She assured me.
“So how do we go about it? We have to go to the hospital, right?” I asked.
“No, my uncle is a doctor in the only hospital in town. There is no way something like that can happen without his knowledge. If and when he finds out, I will be in serious trouble.” She cautioned. “We can go to the other village but most doctors there are his friends. He will find out one way or the other.”
“So we are left with just one option now. We have to do it the other way, right?”

“Listen, I still think we should keep this thing. I know it’s going to be hard but I am scared.” I tried to reason with her.
“Look at you. Fear fear man. I am younger than you and I am a woman. I should be the one to be afraid but you are standing there instead, shaking like the panties of a retired prostitute. He laughed.

One thing about Obi was that he was very easy going. Nothing bothered him. Even in the midst of serious trouble, he was always calm. To say the truth, his attitude was very comforting and reassuring to him.
