I had left the room sad.It was better that I remained quiet.I had ashamed myself before the CU patron,that hit heard.
Walking through the pathways to the gate,I kept throwing a glance at the students.The students were happy.I wished that I could join them and be happy again but inside me I felt broken, ashamed and even wished that the earth could open and swallow me.
I walked directly to a seat that was along the way that the students used while relaxing.I sat as my mind took me back to the events of 9th September 2016.
That day was the best day of my life.It was a day that symbolized hope to our family.A day that I was taking another step of my life.It was the day that I was joining the University.
I remembered how we had left home in Nakuru with my mum early before dawn to catch up with the early bus that led to Nairobi city.
The moment that I stepped through that gate,my heart was at peace.It was a dream come true and even now as I sat not caring the sun that was now burning I couldn’t imagine that my dreams were being shuttered barely six months since I joined University by a person who was supposed to shape my future.
I was feeling tired.I took out my phone to check the time.It was already 11:00 am.I decided to go back to the house and have a rest.
As I was walking my mind full of thoughts,Dalia with the friends saw me and tried calling but I was in deep thoughts that I didn’t hear any of them.
Hakim had jumped the neatly trimmed flowers and stood in front of me that I got scared but had breath a sigh of relief after realizing it was him.
“ Phew! That was close” I said.
Dalia wanted me to give them company and spend sometime together but actually I was not into the mood.
“ Dal am sick,next time please”
“ Please Cate,we really miss you”
After much persuasion,I had agreed.We then walked freely as they made their usual jokes so as to cheer me up.
Actually my mind was very far from what they were saying and I wasn’t even paying attention.After walking for a distance of around a hundred meters which seemed eternity we had decided to seat under a tree in the field.
All this time I didn’t open my mouth to mutter any word.The gang noted this and decided to ask if something was disturbing me.
I had stared at them for a while,I wanted to explain everything but I didn’t want to spoil things further and even words didn’t come out of my mouth anyway.
“ Am fine don’t worry,just having headache”
They looked at me,their eyes feeling pity.Sam had then told me to at least cheer up abit and I will be okay.
After an hour we started walking towards the students residential houses.Where I resided wasn’t far so the five had accompanied me to the house and stayed for a while before they left.
