Sam’s burial date was settled and finally it was decided that it was going to be in two weeks time
During this time neighbours,friends and even his colleagues would storm our compound with condolences message and would leave some money that was to be added for the funeral
That day was finally here.We gathered ourselves with the neighbors, friends and we travelled to the mortuary carry his corpse ready for burial that was scheduled for the next day
At home everything was ready,a bull had been slaughtered as it is our tradition,tents had been set and chairs had been well arranged
The all village was in a sombre mood as they had lost one young energetic youth that five years ago they had celebrated his wedding day
We got to the mortuary after around one hour of driving.Together with his brothers we were welcomed in to confirm if indeed Sam’s body was the one that had been prepared ready for transportation
I stared at his body before nodding my head to confirm that indeed that was Sam.I wanted to shed tears after seeing him but I controlled myself however painful it was
The mortuary attendants carried the body into the black hearse after everybody viewed the body and off we left
We were welcomed at home with cries and screams from the mourners
The event was done that day and the body carried into the house ready for the funeral that was to be conducted the following day
That evening many people were in our compound finalizing the preparation before we bade goodbye to Sam,I was in my room alone trying to remember the best memories that we had together,some made me smile alone but the reality that he was gone hit heard and made tears roll down my cheeks
I was still seated on the bed when suddenly out of the blue Sam appeared,I wanted to scream but he told me not to say anything and moved towards where I was then sat next to me
I couldn’t believe my eyes at all so I had to rub my eyes to confirm if what I was seeing was a reality and indeed Sam was just next to me,dressed in the hospital clothe he had been wearing before he died.
“Sam is this really you? I miss you my love why did you leave me alone in this world”
“Yeah its me and I want you to know that I loved you so much but unfortunately my time here on earth was over”
“Let me follow you then so that we can spend more time together in the after life”
“No I want you to watch over Shilla until she grows up,let her have the love of her mother but I will always be with you, please don’t cry because of me” he said then disappeared
Just then Damian,Sam’s brother stormed into the bedroom
“Is everything okay Lucy?” He asked
“Yeah why are you asking?”
“I thought I heard you talk to yourself so I decided to check up to see if you are okay,If you don’t feel okay please come and spend time with your neighbors outside you will be okay from any bad thoughts” he said and started walking away leaving the door opened and I followed him.
