EJIRO’S ποΈ
I went to my wardrobe and took out her personal phone after I have gotten myself a little bit.
I looked over to the bed to be sure if Ada was still unconscious and fortunately she was, i decided to make a call to Pie.
“Hello Pie,” I said as the phone was answered.
“Hi, Ejiro. How are you?” Pie’s voice came from the other end.
“We were punished by Aunt Mona for…..”
“So you know where Pie dey na en u let madam Mona punish us abi, just wait for me as I go tell her everything,” Ada cut in beside me storming out of the room before I could say anything.
“Hello, Ejiro. What happened?” Pie spoke from the other end.
“I think we are in trouble, Ada, who I thought was still sleeping over my conversation with you, is on her way to tell Aunt Mona,” I said, my heart racing.
“Stop her, please!” Pie said as I ended the call and ran after Ada.
When I walked out of the room, I was surprised to see some girls from the next room gathered around someone, with some using their clothes to fan the person.
Some ran to the room to bring water.
I was curious, completely forgetting that I was supposed to prevent Ada from going to Madam Mona’s office.
I walked to the girls “wetin d happen for here?” I asked Ehi, one of the girls.
“Na Ada oo, she been run come outside from una room, but come fall down for here and she no come stand up again” she said as we arrived at the spot.
My heart beat so fast, praying she should be fine.
I ran crying to where she was lying down, pushing some of the girls out of my way.
Just to see Ada lying motionless with her eyes closed on the floor.
I fell to my knees and shook her violently.
“Wake up Ada, abeg wake up.” I cried as I held her close to my chest.
“Oya, feel her breath, and check if she is still breathing,” one of the girls suggested.
I lowered her head into my lap and placed my ears on her chest, feeling her heartbeat.
“Her heart is not beating anymore,” I said through tears.
“Ewo!!
“Oluwa oo!!
Iju uwa!!
Different comments from various girls. I sat there crying, remembering how Ada came to the Range. Just like everyone one of us she was full of life, healthy and full of dreams. Aunt Mona took her from Enugu, where she used to hawk oranges for her wicked aunt, and promised to send her to school without her aunt’s knowledge, but Ada, being naive, accepted the offer. Aunt Mona made the necessary arrangements and instructed Ada to meet her at a specific location the following day, which Ada gladly did, and that is how Aunt Mona brought her to the Ranch house.
She was a reserved person from the start, always crying and calling on {Amadioha}, the god of thunder in their place, to fire Madam Mona and her generation.
Madam Mona gradually transformed her into a sΓ©x girl. I watched her fall into depression and develop a harsh attitude toward everyone. She will always smoke cigarettes to relieve her depression.
She will always tell me.
“One day I go escape from here, make I go live normal life” is so pathetic she couldn’t fight for that good life she craves for likewise all of us.
“Madam Mona the come oo!” One of the girls announced as everyone made way for her.
She approached us, and everything went silent.
She asked the nurse who had come with her to check Ada’s breath.
After a while, the nurse knelt down and placed her thestoscope on Ejiro’s chest. She shakes her head.
“I am sorry, madam, but she is gone to the afterlife. She died due to a lack of blΓΆod.” She announced, and everyone let out a loud cry.
I cried the most. I felt as if I had pushed her to an early grave.
Three days later.
Narrator’s pov
The Ranch has been closed for two days due to Ada’s sudden death.
Her death was mourned by all of the girls at the Ranch.
They arrived at the cemetery with Ada’s casket, prepared to lay her to rest.
Meanwhile!!
Pie has not stopped crying since she received the news. She cried uncontrollably, refusing to eat for the entire day. Richmond did everything he could to ensure she ate, but it was in vain.
She felt somewhat guilty about Ada’s death. Ada never liked her, but she was still a friend and roommate.
She dressed in black and wore dark sunglasses as Richmond drove them to the cemetery.
Of course, she was not going to get too close to them; instead, she would sit in the car with tinted windows and watch them from a distance.
After the priest, whom Madam Mona had bribed to conduct Ada’s funeral Mass, finished his speech, some of Madam Mona’s men lifted Ada’s casket and placed it in the grave, causing the girls to cry again.
After Ada’s funeral, the girls returned to their cars and drove back to the Ranch.
When Pie was certain that everyone had left.
She and Richmond got out of the car because she insisted on speaking with Ada one last time. When she gets to the grave, she drops the flowers she brought with her.
“I am sorry, Ada,” she said, crying more as Richmond patted her back.
One week later!
PIE’S POVποΈ
It is great to be with Richmond; he is hired a private tutor for me. He also enrolled me in the upcoming Senior High exams.
This is just a step away from my goals. And I am thankful to him.
My main concern right now is how to get the girls out of Madam Mona’s hands.
I was working on some assignments given to me by my private tutor when the door opened, revealing Richmond as cute as ever.
He walked towards me, smiling sheepishly at me.
“Good evening, Sir.” I greeted, lifting my head from my books.
His eyes grew darker.
“What should I do with you?” He smirks.
“I am sorry, I completely forgot.” I said.
“I am going to have to punish you for calling me sir,” he said, approaching me.
“I said I was sorry, na!” I pouted, giving him puppy-dog eyes.
“You can not buy me with those cute puppy dog eyes, so I will punish you, pumpkin pie,” he said cutely, making me blush.
He walked right up to my front, pulled me out of bed, and forced me to stand on my feet, his gaze fixed on mine. I could feel a bitter fly in my stomach.
His lips were soft and tasted like fresh strawberries as he brought his face closer to mine and kissed me..
The kiss became more intense as I reciprocated the kiss. We broke off the kiss after a few moments.
“I have something for you,” he announced as we broke off the kiss.
“You are full of surprises,” I commented as we walked hand in hand to the compound.
Only for him to hand me the car key.
“What for?” I questioned him in confusion.
“That car over there is yours,” he said, pointing at a new Lexus parked in the large compound.
I was speechless, not knowing what to say, so I hugged tightly.
Life returned to normal, and Madam Mona began her business of sending the girls to various men.
However, she has not been at peace with herself.
All of her efforts to reclaim Pie have failed.
The day after Ada’s funeral, Timmy nearly broke Mona’s head, but Madam Mona’s men stood up to Timmy.
It was a narrow escape. “Next time might not be her lucky day,” she reasoned.
Then an idea came to her mind. She smiled wickedly at herself.
She pulled out her cell phone and dialed Veronica’s number. Pie’s mother.
“I will use her to get Pie,” I thought, smiling to myself.
