π§π My Addiction Episode Eight:
I was startled to see Adele, in fact I was immediately thrown off balance.
What would I tell her I was doing with her best friend?
Could it be that she was behind us all these while?
“Hey!” Michelle waved at Adele as she walked up to us.
She fired a look of contempt at me and I instantly felt guilty.
“I can see you’re getting to know each other better,” Adele said, her gaze still fixed on me.
She turned to Michelle and faked a smile, I could see how hoax it was.
I was surprised that she didn’t say anything, because I was pretty sure she saw me and her best friend laughing and talking like old time friends.
I knew she was forcing herself to pretend that nothing happened, maybe she just didn’t want to turn a tiny flare into a fire.
“Iβ¦I was just about telling her how good a friend you are,” I lied.
“Really?” She asked in a sarcastic tone.
“Yeah.” I replied.
I feigned a smile but Adele wasn’t buying it. I could strongly feel that she wasn’t happy.
“It seems more like I’m interrupting something.”
“Why would you say that? You can’t be an interruption.” I placed my hand around her shoulders, I just said those words to avoid suspicion because she really was interrupting something.
“No, it seems like I am unwanted here.”
Adele immediately pulled out of my hands and started walking away.
Now, the right thing to do was to chase after her, apologize and make things straight. But I couldn’t, I couldn’t throw an opportunity to discuss with an angel in the wind.
My heart yearned for a conversation with Michelle, my body ached to hear her soothing voice that relaxes my nerves.
“Adele seems pissed,” Michelle said, she sounded concerned.
“Could she be angry because we’re together?”
“No, not at all. I’m pretty sure she’s just stressed.”
“Hmm!”
There was a silence that followed after, and it wasn’t good for getting to know each other better.
I even began wishing Kelvin was with me, he would have given me a good suggestion on how to continue the discussion as we strolled towards the road.
“What would Kelvin have done?” I thought to myself.
Finally, an idea popped up in my head.
“Soβ¦do you have any hobbies?” I asked.
“Not really⦔
“Ok.” I replied. I was hoping to build a conversation from there, but nothing was working out.
“I love singing though⦔
There was a glimpse of hope.
“Wow! No wonder you have a heavenly voice,” I swiftly chipped in.
She giggled.
“Do you always flatter ladies this way?”
“Only when they deserve it,” I smirked.
She asked a rhetorical question, but I responded to it. I could feel the lines flowing through my veins.
“It’s fine, stop it. I can’t help myself from blushing.” She said like a little child.
“Soβ¦where are you off to? Home?”
“Yeah.”
“Areβ¦you currently free toβ¦maybe get a drink?”
She hesitated, I could feel her thinking about it.
“When?”
“Anytime, are you free now?”
“Wellβ¦ I guess so.”
“Let’s grab a drink then, bill’s on me.”
“Before? Who would you expect it to be⦔ she asked laughing.
Well, I didn’t find it funny because the last time I ate at a restaurant the bill wasn’t on me.
I took Michelle to the other end of town, I didn’t want Adele to know about it.
There was a question that kept ringing in my head no matter how hard I tried to suppress it.
Was I being unreasonable?
Maybe I was taking Adele’s love for granted. I knew deep down that Adele loved me but my heart yearned for someone else.
I took Michelle to a small bar, we had some drinks and hot pepper soup.
There wasn’t much talking, it felt like there was something heavy on Michele’s mind; something bothering her.
Her mood just surprisingly changed.
We finished from the bar and I decided to walk her home.
My time with her was extremely boring and I felt very uncomfortable, there was this negative energy Michelle was radiating. She definitely wasn’t happy about something.
I followed her into her street; Tenth street. I had to engage her in a conversation to make the moment worth remembering.
“You’ve not really been saying much, is anything the matter?”
“Nothing that you should be worried about.”
“Michelle, you can open up to me, if it’s what I can help with in advice or any way, I’ll try. Ok?”
“You won’t understand David, I just don’t want to talk about it⦔
“It’s fine, it’s fine. But I want you to know that if you ever want to talk about it, I’m here for you.”
“Fine,” she conceded.
“You’re the reason my mood changed.”
“How? Have I done anything bad?”
“No, not that. Just that youβ¦you remind me of Onitemi.”
“Onitemi? Is that a guy you dated in the past?”
“Yeah,” she answered.
“He’s the nicest person I’ve ever known, the most caring person I have ever seen. I loved him so much, more than my parents, even more than myself.”
Wow! I was moved.
“So what happened between you guys?”
“He died,” she said, sobbing.
“He was a sickler, but he never told me and he left without saying goodbye.”
A tear dribbled down her cheek, I could feel the overwhelming emotions in her words.
“I’m very sorry about that. Sometimes, life happens,” I said.
“Well, I have lost affection for every other guy since then. But youβ¦you talk like him, you even look a bit like him, and you always have those witty comments like Onitemi did.”
Unbelievable!
I was proud of myself, now I really stood a chance at getting her.
“When I first saw you, I tried to ignore the resemblance, because if I remember Onitemi, tears would always race down my cheeks.”
Truly, she was already drenched in tears, it was obvious she really loved this guy.
“I’m really sorry about that, I never meant to dig up buried memories.”
“No, it’s fine. I’m ok, it’s fine.”
She halted.
“That’s my house, I live alone. I have to get going.”
“Alright, take care of yourself.”
“You too,” she said walking to her door.
“Don’t think too much,” I shouted.
She simply nodded and bade me goodbye.
Woah! That was an emotional moment, I was getting more and more into her. Seeing her sober just made me long more for her.
Just then, my phone beeped. It was a text message.
I tapped on it, Adele was the sender.
I exhaled, and finally commenced reading.
“I’m really not happy with you David. I’m sure you know you hurt me but you don’t seem to care. If you don’t have any feelings for me, then why lie to meβ¦why did you have to say those words to me at the restaurant that day?
I really love you David, but I don’t know if you love me back. Please let me know, tell me the truth, I don’t want to get my heart brokenβ¦do you really love me?”
Man! I felt a surge of emotions as I read Adele’s message. I was confused on what to reply, did I really love any of them? Or was it just infatuationβ¦
I enjoyed admiring the wonderful work of the creator in Michelle’s body and I savored the care Adele showed me. I didn’t want to let anyone go, I wanted both.
Oh my addiction! I just can’t tell?
I think I love Adele
But my heart is with Michelle.
Oh my addiction! Into the pool of love, I fell.
I think I love this beautiful girl
But I can’t just leave that angel.
