I carried her to the car, and she kept asking where we were going, but I told her we were moving to a better home.
“Better house?” she inquired, resting her head on my shoulder and beaming with happiness.
“Yes, you deserve to live a better life.” I half said we got to the front of Victoria’s car.
But I stop abruptly… As an idea struck my mind.
I quickly turned and headed back inside.
Victoria was calling out to me, but I ignored her.
I can’t sacrifice my child. No! She is too precious to die so young.
I return to the room and pick up the wads of cash Victoria gave me earlier.
Victoria kept honking her car horn, urging me to hurry up with whatever I was doing.
Thankfully, the container has two main entrances.
I exited through the backdoor, grabbing a wrapper to cover the sleeping Jewel.
I took the back entrance and came out in a place that Victoria will still think am in side.
I walked quickly with Jewel on my back, taking the side road that led to the main road.
Thank God, there are still some bikes and a moving cab visible. I signaled to a cab driver to take us to any nearby hotel. We will stay the night at the hotel, and in the morning, I will decide what to do.
After a while of driving, the vehicle broke down.
The taxi driver came down to look at what was going on with the car, while I sat nervously with Jewel on my lap, silently praying for it to start.
After a few seconds, the taxi driver arrived and attempted to start the vehicle, but it refused to start.
“Is everything all right?” I questioned him.
βI no know for this car oh!β He spoke flatly.
He returned to the car engine and did some things, and fortunately, the car started.
I breathe a sigh of relief.
We continued on our journey and arrived in front of a moderate hotel. I paid off the taxi driver and booked a room.
I was immediately shown to my room, where I laid Jewel down on the bed and properly closed the door.
I also fell asleep by her side.
I immediately closed my eyes. I dozed off and had a strange dream.
I was hurriedly walking towards a lonely bushy area while holding Jewel in my hand. Someone seems to be after me.
“You can not outrun your own shadow! Patricia, hand me that child. “She belongs to me.” A woman with two horns appeared in front of me.
“No, I will not give you my child.” I shouted, clutching Jewel tightly.
“It is only a stubborn fly that travels with the corpse to the grave,” she repeated.
“Give me that child now,” she demanded, pointing her metal staff encrusted with cowrie beads at me.
“No, I will not give you my sunshine,” I said.
Instantly, some strange stΔck nΔked ladies with one horn that is not as long as the first lady’s appeared, holding a long cane and heading towards me. They were about twenty of them.
They approached me, and one of them attempted to forcefully take my child away from me. But I was hellbent on fighting her.
She used the cane to strike me in the arms. Instead of hurting me, the cane shocked me and made my hand weaker. But I still hold onto my child.
“I can see you are stubborn, huh?” She said, and with a click of her hands, the rest of the ladies appeared in front of me, flogging me with their canes. I fell to the ground with Jewel still yet I refused to let go.
They flogged me mercilessly, and I could not help but scream loudly, waking up instantly and sitting upright on the bed, drenched in my own sweat.
I felt pain all over my body; my body was in pain. I looked at my body and noticed some reddish marks all over it, as if I had been flogged in real life.
I look to the side and sigh in relief as I see Jewel sleeping peacefully beside me.
I got out of bed to go to the bathroom. A dark female figure with two long horns, similar to the one I saw in my dream, appeared by the wall. I was both stunned and scared.
What did she want from me?
