π§βπΌ Mini Me Episode Four:
The next morning after we were done dressing up for church, Olivia sat me down to ask me questions about Priscilla.
I knew she would definitely come up with this so I wasn’t caught unaware.
Women will always be women.
“She’s just my friend.”
“Just a friend, Dennis?”
Olivia thought I was having intimate relationship with Priscilla and felt she’s the one my family like cause of how how my parents welcomed her.
“I saw how your father stole glances at her last night. Your mom danced with her with so much joy and comfort.
Where were you when your mother was calling you last night? What were both of you doing?”
“Are you jealous Olivia?”
I asked to provoke her more.
“What!? What do you mean, Dennis?”
“It’s baby, not Dennis.” She swallowed hard.
Her was face had anger written all over.
“When you’re done being jealous, join me in the dinning room.
I’m sure my parents are waiting for us.”
I walked out on her. I know she needed a very clear explanation of who Priscilla is to me.
But not now. I have to figure things out myself before bringing it to her table.
I walked into dinning room and met my parents and Priscilla already having breakfast.
I greeted them, pulled a chair and sat opposite Priscilla who was sitting beautifully in her red wine dress and light make up.
Olivia walked in wearing a beautiful smile but I could see through the smile that she was upset.
She greeted everyone and sat beside me.
“So you mean you don’t know anything about your first family and Where you were born?”
My father asked Priscilla who had her beautiful eyes on her breakfast.
She’s shy but brave and outspoken.
“No sir.
My first family I know told me they picked me from the dump.”
“So why did you leave your first family.” My father was keen to get every information about this girl, Priscilla.
“They loved me at first when they never had a child and I was their only child.
But after God blessed them with a baby, I became something they despise with everything within them.
They accused me of being a witch. Sold the story all over the internet and the vicinity.
They pulled me out of school, starved me and gave me a bed to sleep at the balcony even when it rained.
So…I ran away to the street where I met Dennis who gave me food after starving for weeks.”
“My God! You mean some human beings are really that mean! My God!?” Olivia exclaimed, amazed.
I was amazed too. My head ache at what this little girl has been through for what she knows nothing about.
My Mom stayed silent as this whole conversation went on.
“There’s so much wickedness in the heart of humans.” My father exhaled.
“So you don’t know what your real mother looks like? I’m so sorry babe.” Olivia tried to console Priscilla who doesn’t look sad at all.
She was telling us her story with ease. Know emotions attached at all.
“I know what she looks like.”
“Hmmmm?” My father leaned forward and had all his eyes on Priscilla.
“She looks like me. I am her carbon copy.
She visits me every 24th of July to wish me a happy birthday.
She’s the only one who doesn’t call me by my name, Priscilla.
She calls me Nini.”
My father’s cutlery slipped off his hands into his plate of pasta.
“Nini?” He asked, curious.
“Yes sir.”
“Just Nini ?” My father was so inquisitive about Priscilla’s life story and this showed he was serious about finding his daughter which he believed is still alive.
“She called me Nina just once. I was six years old then but she never called me Nina ever again.”
My Mom adjusted her chair backward. She wasn’t eating her breakfast. She was clearly uncomfortable and her face had trouble written all over.
I don’t know what is about to befall us through Priscilla but I just hope it doesn’t tear my family apart.
I despise divorce. I grew up seeing my parents as the best couple in the world and wished my marriage to be like theirs.
I don’t know why I’m thinking this way though. But the way my Mom excluded herself in the whole conversation, it’s obvious something is wrong.
And whatsoever my dad is trying to find out about Priscilla, my Mom is not comfortable with it.
I sensed trouble and this made my head ache even more.
“You’ll be fine Priscilla.” My father assured her.
We ate our breakfast quietly without saying a word to each other until we were done.
My mother already excused herself and left the dinning room when Priscilla revealed the name her mother calls her whenever she visits.
After having breakfast, I drove Priscilla to her home and drove my family to church.
After church service, my Mom was nowhere to be found at in the church and her number was not connecting.
I drove Olivia to her house and took my father to a salon to have a hair cut.
On our way home, I decided to have a little conversation with my father about Leah and Priscilla.
“Dad,”
“Son,”
“I am sorry about what I want to tell you right now…”
“What is it.”
“Last night I overheard you having a conversation with Mom about Priscilla and Leah.
Who’s Leah.”
“Why were you eavesdropping on us. You know that’s a disrespect.”
“I am sorry father. I was going to my room when I heard you talking with so much pain in your voice.
It drew my attention.”
“Okay…”
“So… Who’s Leah? Why are you so much interested in Priscilla life story?”
“It’s a long story son. A very painful long story and I wish at the end you don’t hate me or hate your mother for any reason.”
“Not at all father. I will always have a reason to love you both.”
“Hmmmm.”
My father exhaled, “Leah is my late wife. The first woman I was married to before your mother.
She’s your mother’s twin sister.”
I was shocked to the bone marrow.
I wasn’t expecting that reply at all.
I was expecting something like Leah being my father’s mistress.
But somehow I knew Leah wasn’t just any kind of a woman cause of the way my father spoke about her with my Mom.
But at the same time, I wasn’t expecting her to be anything close to a wife to my father or twin sister to my mother.
“Leah was a woman who wanted a beautiful life for herself and her family.
After we got married, she brought in your mother to live with us.
Leah was still schooling while your mother was into catering and was mostly at home.
She made the food we eat.
One day, she drugged my tea and….I don’t know what happened, but we made love and she got pregnant.”
He paused and swallowed hard.
