👫 Lust For Money CHAPTER EIGHT: ❣️
Phyna was very drowsy. So a breathing tube was inserted into her windpipe. The tube was then attached to a mechanical ventilator, which supported Phyna’s breathing. The tube prevented Phyna’s vomit from entering into her lungs, and the ventilator ensured adequate breathing.
As a matter of fact, many treatment methods were used on Phyna just to save her from dîéîñg. Thank goodness Femi was equal to the tax financially to fit the bills. Even before the commencement of the treatments, a lot had gone out from his pocket already.
But unfortunately, the poison remained life threatening to Phyna despite the use of charcoal and antidotes. Then the doctors had to apply more complicated treatment so as to remove the poison. The treatment was hemodialysis.
In the hemodialysis treatment, an artificial kidney (dialyzer) was used on Phyna to filter the poisons directly from the bloodstream.
For this method, small tubes (catheters) were inserted into Phyna’s blood vessels, one was to drain blood from her artery and the other was to return blood to her vein. The blood was passed through special filters that remove the toxic substance before being returned to the body.
But in the end, Phyna was diagnosed with liver problems. Her liver had sustained permanent, severe damage. However, liver transplantation was urgently needed.
Without wasting much time, arrangements were made for Phyna to be flown out of the country for liver transplantation. Femi footed the bills also.
Phyna was flown out of the country immediately for the liver transplantation.
Lizzy did everything possible to find out who was responsible for the póîsóñiñg of Phyna. But all of them denied being responsible for the atróçîty.
Then, Lizzy had to involve the police. Every Tom, Dick and Harry were arrested including some friends that came around. About three of their friends in the business came around and spent a night In the house before going to the Houseparty from there. Because the proximity of Ikeja to Lagos Island was closer than the Ikorodu where they were staying.
After some investigations, the police could not still find the perpetrator. After all said and done, they were all released from the police custody as they were found not guilty. Though the unavailability of the victim – Phyna – really made the case to hold no water.
Lizzy had refused to accept No for an answer. Because she strongly believed that the person who póîsóñéd Phyna was in their midst. So she was very determined to find out who that was.
As such, Lizzy had to embark on a mission for that. She visited many native doctors but none of them could pinpoint who the person was. She also visited many prophets and prophetesses to no avail. The same story. In fact, none of them had the power to reveal to her the perpetrator. All they did was to hide under false pretenses just to extórt her. And out of desperation, Lizzy kept falling victim.
Before Lizzy could release what was happening, it was too late. These so called seers under the false pretenses of prophet, prophetess, native doctor and alfa had milk her account almost to zero level.
At one point, Lizzy had to advise herself. And she aborted the mission. As it had dawned on her that she had been falling into the net of sçámmérs all these while.
‘Indeed a desperate man is liable to destructióñ. I am dóómed. I have been dûpéd. These sçámmérs had eaten me raw. They have eaten me so deep,’ she paused. Then light her cigarette back. ‘These people were so real that I became so comfortable with them without knowing I was being sçámméd. Now look at me. I have lost almost all I have worked so hard for. My mónéy. Almost two million naira. All gone! The worst part of it all is that none of them could tell me who póîsóñéd Phyna. God!,’ She paused. Already, Lizzy was done with yet another stick of cigarette again. She reached for the packet, took one, tilt the cigar and toast the foot to heat up before lightning. She sparked the lighter with áñgér and frustration. With the cigar in her mouth, she began to puff and rotate it around the flame.
Just then, a call came in. On Lizzy finding out who the caller was, she had her heart in her throat.
The caller was Mr. Femi. And the last time Lizzy spoke with him, he did not sound so well. So when she pressed him further to know what Phyna’s health was like, all he could tell her was to pray for Phyna.
‘Lizzy, pray for Phyna. Her situation here is not encouraging. Phyna’s chances of survival are 50/50…,’ Femi’s words kept recurring in her head.
‘God!,’ Lizzy screamed amid panic and shievery. ‘What could be the problem that warrants Femi calling me at this ungodly hour of the day?,’ she asked herself, praying nothing should happen to Phyna. Because she has been fighting for her life over there for so long now. Lizzy quickly shifted her gaze to the watch, it was 2am in the morning.
Lizzy couldn’t summon the courage to pick Femi’s call. Meanwhile, Femi has been with Phyna for a month now away from Nigeria.
Finally, Lizzy picked the call amid panic. It was at Femi’s third attempt she picked. But the news she heard hit her like a thunderbolt.
