π Just One Mistake Episode Episode Fourteen:
Chief was having dinner with his family, which consists of five people, his beautiful wife, and three children, himself inclusive when the police walked into his living room. For days, the police had tried to get him arrested but hadn’t been able to as he was hardly around. But at last, they found him at home. Chief was shocked to see policemen in his domain; when they wanted to arrest him, he tried to bribe them, but it didn’t work.
The policemen took him along with them while his wife and eldest son drove after them. Chief was taken into the questioning room and asked a series of questions about Dele’s death. But he claimed to know nothing about Dele’s death. For three days, Chief kept proving to be innocent. On the fourth day, Dele came into the questioning room with the record that the lawyer had given him.
Being shocked was an understatement of what Chief felt at that moment; he pinched himself severally to ensure he wasn’t dreaming.
Dele: What a pleasant surprise, dearest Uncle. The police said you claimed innocence. Oh my!
Chief: how dare you lock me up after all I did to you since your father passed away
Dele: the only thing you did to my family is to cause us pain. Uncle, I put it to you that you had a hand in my father’s death, and I bet it that you won’t go scot-free
Chief: and what evidence do you have? Look here, young man, you can’t do anything because you have no evidence against me.
Dele smiled wickedly and played the record which contained Cynthia’s voice, and after listening to it, Chief was dumbfounded. Of truth, the record was all the evidence needed to put him behind bars.
Chief: we could settle this amicably
Dele: settle amicably, you say? I am not stupid to let a criminal go scotfree; I just want to know what my family did to you
Chief: you are a little boy; you don’t know anything
Dele: a little boy that will decide if you will get a death sentence or life imprisonment. For your information, the commissioner of police is interested in this case, and Gomez, your accomplice, is already in police custody, and he has confessed to the police, so there is no escape route for you. I will decide whether you will leave or die.
Chief: Your father was supposed to hand over the company to me, but what did he do? He made you the chairman when I was the one that stood with him all these years, your father and I built the company together, and all he could do to repay me was to ask you to take over. Who does that?
Dele: see what your impatience has led you? I planned to hand it over to you after I relocated to Canada with my wife. I was already working on our papers before we got married, and I wanted to give you a surprise on your birthday. Well, it’s good things turn out this way; this is just to prove that you are a wicked man. We will see in court.
With that, they walked out of the room; Chief was oblivious to the fact that Dele had recorded their conversation. Dele was ready to see to the fact that his Uncle would not come out of the prison because he might become more dangerous if he did.
A week later, Chief and Gomez were charged to court. When Cindy heard that her sugar daddy had been charged to court, she ran back to Dubai to start life afresh, she pitied Chief, but she wasn’t ready to suffer with any man. She was grateful for all Chief did for her, and all she could do was pray that he comes out of the prison alive as he had committed a lot of atrocities in the name of position.
Bimbo stood in the witness box with a handcuff in her hands as she watched the lawyers try their best to speak in favor of their clients; Dele’s lawyer presented all available evidence, and Chief’s lawyer also did his best to ensure his client wasn’t given a jail term, but the evidence presented by Dele’s lawyer was too great to be pushed aside. It was Chief’s words against him after Dele handed the record of their conversation.
Bimbo was set free after it was discovered that she had been innocent all this while. Chief was sentenced to death by the hanging after discovering that he was behind the death of Dele’s father and attempted to kill Dele. Gomez was given twenty-five years imprisonment for molesting Bimbo and being Chief’s accomplice.
As the prison warder removed the handcuff from her wrist, Bimbo couldn’t control her tears; she was finally free after five years. She looked up and saw her little boy running towards her while her mother followed suit. She met him halfway and caught him; it was an emotional moment as Mrs. Folake also couldn’t stop weeping. Initially, she thought she would die while her daughter was in prison, but then, God’s mercy prevailed.
While Bimbo held her son tightly, Dele, his mother, and two sisters came closer to apologize to Bimbo for the wrong accusation.
