The battle wasn’t over, she needed to study even harder for her post jamb,she didn’t want to school far away from home because of Sammy and I,she wanted to go to University of Benin,which wasn’t that far from grandpa’s house,but gaining admission to the university wasn’t a child’s play,and she was going for Nursing,she really needed that admission,and so she studied even harder,that at some point, grannies became worried for her,that perhaps she should slow down….
But it is nearly impossible to stop a determined woman, who’s ready to right her wrongs…
She soon wrote the exams and thankfully she passed well very….
By now,I was preparing for my first school leaving certificate examination too,encouraged by my mom,I studied hard,and the Saturday for my exam came,the questions were easy and I did my best,I was very happy as I was going to college,my 10th birthday was just a few days away….
Mother was waiting anxiously for her to be admitted,we were all praying and hoping for it,but it seems delayed and this bothered mother a great deal,but somehow,grandpa was hopeful that she’d be giving admission,since she has good results….
It was my tenth birthday,and grandma had made a delicious meal of jollof rice,grandpa had bought drinks,and made a big cake for me,few extended family had been invited, neighbors were also around,it was a mini party for me and I was very grateful…
Mother rushed out, that she’d be back in a few minutes.she returned about 40minutes later and she was very happy,she had been given admission to study Nursing in university of Benin.it was a double celebration,and we were all happy for mother…
Mother was going to the university and I was going to college, God was indeed with us….
We had our party and it ended joyfully, everyone returning home,only few of grandma’s people stayed back till the next day…..
Soon we went on holidays,while mother had started her clearance and admissions process….
Our lives were beginning to make so much sense that I wondered why mother had to stay so long before leaving father who didn’t see anything good in us….
It’s been more than a year and we hadn’t seen nor heard anything about father,he didn’t come for us,neither did grandma nor anyone from father’s side,i only wondered if we were ever loved nor considered family by father’s people,not even aunty Isoken whom I thought had our best interest and mother’s at heart.well life was better without them,and that was our consolation….
Mother was done with her clearance and had resumed classes, grandma was very helpful,she was the one practically taken care of Sammy and I,since mother was always in school.
Mother was glowing,she was looking very beautiful by the day,I believe she was happy with herself,she was achieving what she thought wasn’t going to be possible, perhaps she had thought she wouldn’t be able to further her education anymore, infact that would have been the case had she remained with father.

School was resuming for the session the next week,and Grandma took me with her to the market to get everything we’d be needing for school,books,bags, shoes, socks,pen,pencils and what have you…
On Friday prior to the school’s resumption,we were home with grandma having lunch, grandpa had gone out,when we heard a knock at the protector…
