Seun was in the living room lost in thought when he heard the doorbell ring, if there was one thing Seun was grateful for, it was his mother’s resilience. Even though she was a single mom, she strived to build a house. He can never forget the situation when their landlord threw them out in the cold because they were unable to pay their house rent, his mom had used the money to pay for his Junior Waec instead of paying their house rent, and they then had to sleep in a church for two years while his mom labored to build her own house. Indeed, life was tough but his mother’s great strength prevented them from giving up.
Seun opened the door and was surprised to find Mr. Kosoko at the doorstep, Clara brought him to his house. Seun was so disappointed, he didn’t expect that from her.
Seun: How dare you, Clara? I never knew you were this cheap, how much did he pay you to do this?
Clara: (teary) Seun……
Seun: Shut up your mouth and leave here this minute, you can as well decide to get married to him. He has the kind of money you want your man to have.
Clara was dumbfounded, Seun had never for once raised his voice at her talk less of speaking to her anyhow. She burst into tears the moment she got into Mr. Kosoko’s car. She never had the intention of taking him to Seun’s house but the man traced her house all thanks to the managing director and began to plead with her to bring him to his son. The last straw that broke the camel’s back was when Mr. Kosoko came to her house and prostrated before her, that action softened her heart and made her bring him to Seun.
Mr. Kosoko tried to pacify the crying Clara but she refused to be pacified, Clara had never felt that humiliated in her life and to think she didn’t collect a dime from Mr. Kosoko, she just wanted to reconcile father to son. On getting home that day, Clara went straight to her room and resumed her crying session, she cried till she had no strength in her. At that point, she made up her mind that she wouldn’t have anything to do with Seun.
For days, Seun was mad at Clara but later had to let sleeping dogs lie. He called her to apologize for his outburst but she refused to pick, he tried again only to realize that she had blocked his line. Seun called her with another line but she ended the call immediately when she heard his voice. At that juncture, Seun knew he needed to go check on her. But then, he kept wondering what he might have done that would make her block his line. The Holy Spirit then began to remind him of the harsh words he used on her.
Since they stopped going to work, Clara helped her mom sell and tried to upgrade her catering skills. Her dad had built two shops in front of their house while he was still alive to rent them out, one was one of the shops that Clara’s mom used for the sales of her goods while Clara used the other for her catering business. After paying her ex his money, her mother gave her the sum of five hundred thousand to establish herself while the remaining balance was used to start a foodstuff business for her mom.
Clara was watching a video on how to decorate a cake when she heard someone walk in. At first, she thought it was her mother but saw Seun standing behind her. He greeted her but she refused to reply and made to leave the shop through the back door but he quickly blocked her.
Seun: I am sorry.
Clara: you don’t need to apologize, I know I am cheap.
Seun: No na, you are not. My babe isn’t a cheap woman, I said that out of anger. I am so sorry, see, my mom slapped me for calling you that. I never knew she was standing at the back of the door that day, she was angry I used such words on you.
Clara: I have heard you.
Seun: Babe…..
Clara: I am not your babe.
Seun: What can I do to appease the gods now?
Clara: You are disturbing me ooooh
Seun: (went on his knees) Babe, I am truly sorry.
Instead of forgiving him, Clara took her cell phone and went into the house leaving Seun on his knees. She planned to sleep and by the time she came back outside, he would have gone but she was wrong. By the time she came into her shop, Clara met Seun helping her mother to sell her goods. She watched him speak nicely to the customers while selling to them. While watching him, her heart melted, and she realized that she had fallen so much in love with this man that she couldn’t stay mad at him forever.
Clara: I will come and take over
Seun: Hmmm, still mad at me?
Clara: Free me, abeg.
Seun: (held her hand lovingly) I am truly sorry, I was just angry, I wasn’t ready to face him yet and you bringing him to my house angered me.
Clara: But then, you could have chosen your words rightly. You made it look like I brought him because of what I would gain and to think, I rejected all he offered me. I just wanted to reconcile you to your father. He came here and was crying that I should bring him to your house and I took pity on him.
Seun: We’ve spoken. First, I would be having a DNA test to ascertain the fact that he is my father but that doesn’t mean, I will accept him fully, he hurt us greatly. My mom does not even want to hear anything about him.
Clara: I understand he wronged you but you need to understand that we can’t move on to the next phase which God has for us if we hold on to baggages and forgiveness is a baggage that you need to drop to be able to climb the ladder of success.
Seun: It’s hard to let go, remembering how my mom and I suffered.
Clara: Yes, it will be painful but you need to let go, ask God for grace and it won’t be hard for you to let go. Meanwhile, you need to pray for your mom to be able to let go.
Seun: Hmmm, alright dear, thanks for your timely advice. You’ve forgiven me, right?
Clara: Not until you take me out, that’s the only way to appease me.
