π For The Love Of Vivian EPISODE FIVE: π
“I’m sure you know I never liked you, and I wouldn’t hesitate to do anything to get rid of you. But I just want to assure you of one thing; one day you will leave my son’s house!”
“Ahh! Mama why will you say such a thing?”
“I’ve told you countless times to stop calling me mama, I can never give birth to a thing like you.”
“Why will you call me a thing? What have I done that you hate me so much?” Aliyah said as she felt tears well up her eyes.
“Please I’m not ready for any disturbance, as you can see I was watching a movie before you interrupted me.”
“What wrong have I done to deserve such ill treatment?” Aliyah said as a hot tear dropped from her eyes.
“What is wrong with you!?” Her mother in law thundered.
“Can’t you see I’m watching a movie? If you want to cry, why can’t you go and cry somewhere else?”
“What have I done to deserve all this?” Aliyah sobbed as she walked inside.
“I don’t even know what my son saw in you,” her mother in law said in a low tone but it was loud enough for Aliyah to hear.
Just then, her husband entered the sitting room. He was startled as he saw tears on his wife’s cheeks.
“Honey, what’s going on? What happened?”
Aliyah just stood rooted to the spot, she tried using her hand to wipe her tears but it wasn’t helping.
“Mama why is she crying?” Desmond asked with his gaze fixed on his mother.
She just whistled and acted like he wasn’t even there.
Desmond walked over to his crying wife, he held her to himself and began wiping off her tears.
“Honey what’s wrong? What happened? Why are you crying?”
“What wrong have I done?” She asked sobbing.
“I don’t understand, how do you mean?”
“What have I done that your mum hates me so much?”
“Hey! Just hold it there!” Desmond’s mum cut in.
“I don’t want to hear my name from that stupid mouth of yours.”
“Mama what is it? Why will you speak to her that way, do you realise she’s my wife!?”
“Desmond! So you are now shouting at me because of this witch?”
“Mama please just hold it there. She’s my wife and not a witch!”
“Desmond do you realise who you are shouting at? It’s me your mother o. I carried you for nine months, I singlehandedly took care of you after your father died.”
“And so what? You singlehandedly took of me after my father died, a father that I don’t know what he looks like or where he comes. A father that I know absolutely nothing about.”
“Don’t go there Desmond. How many times have I told you that I lost his pictures. Please let’s not allow this bring issues between us.”
Desmond hissed and immediately carried Aliyah on his shoulders. He held her tightly like a baby and took her into the bedroom.
Her mother in law shot a deadly stare at her, she snapped her fingers in a manner that screamed “you will see.”
Desmond carefully dropped Aliyah on the bed. He used his fingers to play with her hair and he gave a charming smile.
“I’m really sorry for what happened back there, sometimes my mum is just overdramatic.”
“I don’t know but I feel it’s beyond that, I don’t know why she hates me so much. She…”
“Nope, my mum doesn’t hate you, I know that.”
“Are you sure, because there’s nothing I can do to please her, she’s always angry at every little thing I do. Like what just happened, it’s not enough for her to talk to me like I’m trash.”
“It’s okay honey. I’m sorry,” Desmond said softly.
“But what really happened?”
“I… I had just returned from Victor’s place when she started asking where I went to.”
“Wait. Did you say Victor?”
“Yes, I went to his…”
“Did I not tell you not to go there?” Desmond fired.
“Umm…you didn’t specifically say that.”
“Honey, I asked you not to do anything, I asked you to forget about this issue but you’ve refused to listen.”
“Why should I? Huh?” Aliyah asked very perplexed.
“Honey we have to forget about this and focus on allowing the wounds in our hearts to get healed.”
“Desmond, this is very strange to be coming from you.”
“I am your husband!” Desmond thundered.
“I have told you to forget about this issue but you’ve shown me that my words mean nothing to you.”
“No, babe don’t say that.”
“You know what… maybe my mum was right. I never should have married you.” Desmond said as he immediately got up the bed.
He went to the wardrobe and got into a black polo shirt.
“I’m going out.” He said in an apathetic manner.
“Is it because of this little quarrel? I’m sorry,” she begged.
“Leave me alone Aliyah!”
It had been years since he last called her by her name.
“There is something I have to do immediately.”
Desmond put on a pair of brown boots and immediately left the house.
Aliyah was in pains, why was she being mistreated by everyone including her husband.
More tears ran down her cheek, she wished could just forget all the miserable things she was passing through. From losing her only child, to the ill treatment from her mother in law. “Why me?” She cried.
Staying awake would just make her more depressed. She held tightly to a pillow, shut her eyes and forced herself to sleep.
Aliyah was woken up from sleep by the loud wails in the neighbourhood. What she heard sounded like the cry of people in distress, immediately she glanced at the big clock on the wall.
It was just 4:30 pm, barely thirty minutes after her husband left the house.
The neighbourhood was becoming noisy and the atmosphere smelled like catastrophe.
She put on her flip flops and immediately rushed out of her house.
Everyone was gathered close by and it appeared they were all looking at something.
“Mama Nkechi wetin happen wey people gather for there?” She asked one of her neighbours.
“Go and see for yourself oo!” The lady wept with her both hands on her head.
Aliyah ran down to where the people were gathered. She managed to weave through the dense crowd and finally her eyes saw what had caused panick in the entire neighbourhood.
It was a girl whose physique looked like she was in her late teens, her head was cut off and all her genitals were gone!
