π«π For Belcy Or For Worst Chapter Three:
The very Next Day, Belcy, looking weak and fragile visited our house. Everyone was home. We were all seated in the living room while we talked. My father gave Belcy a stern warning to leave his son to travel abroad. He told her that if his son kept pestering him about Belcyβs health, he was going to make sure we stop seeing each other. Poor Belcy, all she could do was oblige. The meeting finished as soon as it started because my father did not allow anyone else to speak. After he had finished speaking, he declared the meeting over and went into his bedroom.
Belcy and I were in the car going to Belcyβs house. There was total silence as no one wanted to talk to each other. We were both very disappointed and discouraged about the outcome of things. When we got to Belcyβs house, she gave me a cold goodbye and left. On my way home, I decided that someway or the other, I was going to look for a solution. However, none came into my mind.
The problem with me was that, I was a spoiled child. From the very first day I was born, I had been given whatever I wanted. I didnβt know that life was not as easy as I thought. MY father on the other hand had built his wealth from scratch. He had tasted suffering and would not allow anyone to reap from where he did not sow. In order to frustrate My entanglement with Belcy, he decided to fast-forward my travelling program. I was going to leave that same weekend.
I was simply inconsolable when the news was broken to me. I tried fruitlessly to make my father change his mind but the latter refused to budge. All I wanted was to at least be by Belcyβs side when she breathes her last. I wanted to spend her last days with her. When I was sure that my father wasnβt going to change his mind, I went to see Belcy to break the sad news to her.
βI will be leaving this weekend, babe.β I said, sadly.
βWhy? I thought you still had like two months left?β
βYes, babe. That was what I thought too. However, my dad has precipitated things.β
βOh my gosh! Roy, do you know what this means? It means we will never see each other again. I will be dead in a few months. This might just be our last moment together.β She was deeply saddened and in tears.
βI understand babe. There is nothing we can do. I wish I was working already and earning my own money. But I am not and I can only depend on my parents. Depending on them means I have to dance to their tune.β
βItβs ok, babe. I know your feelings for me are pure. Please donβt be worried. We will meet again in the afterlife. We will meet in heaven again and be forever and ever.β She spoke.
βYou break my heart by saying that. I donβt think you will die. Letβs go to church. Letβs go to one of these prophets around. You might be healed.β I proposed.
βNo need, itβs just a waste of time. Nothing will change. Letβs not sink energy. I have accepted my fate. I wish you well in your future life. As for me, this is the end of me. But no matter what happens, know that you are always in my heart.β She wept.
I sat beside her thinking deeply. No ideas came to my mind. I held Belcyβs hand and told her I loved her deeply and will always do whether in life or death. I promised to see her one last time before the weekend. I left her house and as I was driving home, my phone rang. I picked and it was my good friend, Collins.
βHi Collinsβ
βHi Roy. I am calling in respect to what we discussed last time about your girlfriend, Belcy.β
βYes, bro. The situation is worse now. I just left her place now and she was vomiting. Her stomach has also begun to bloat. The main problem is that I am travelling this weekend and will only be back after three years. I donβt know what I am going to do, Bro. She is dying.β
βDonβt worry, Bro. That is why I called you. I have made some findings and it is evident that what she is suffering from is Cancer of the liver; basically hepatitis B. I know someone in my village who can cure it traditionally. If we can take her there, then everything will be fine.β
Collins explained.
βThis is good news, bro. But in that case, we have to do that immediately. Today is Wednesday already and I am leaving on Saturday. We have to be fast, bro.β
βYes, that is true. But my findings have proven that the man is out of town. He will only return on Friday and will start attending to patients on Saturday. That means we can only go there on Saturday.β
I was confused. That same Saturday, I was going to leave the country. What was I going to do now? I parked my car by the side of the road so that I could fully process the situation. I thought of living her in Collinsβ hands. However, I badly wanted to be there myself. I would have no peace until I was sure she had really begun treatment. I decided that I would call her first and tell her about the recent developments, so that she could start making any necessary arrangements. After I had made the call, I drove home feeling hopeful. I badly needed to have a nap. The day had been a long one.
It was Saturday and the day I was going to leave. I had parked my bags ready and got everything prepared. My father had an important meeting to attend with the members of his board. My mum was also a member of the board and was also involved in the meeting. I had been asked to drive myself to the airport. I was told my car would be picked up later. After, all the mandatory goodbyes and everything, I got into my car and drove off to the airport.
It had been two days now and my parents hadnβt gotten any call from me whether I had reached Britain or not. They had checked the news and there were no stories of any plane crash. They were restless and worried. My father drove to the airport to make enquiries about the particular flight I was scheduled to have taken.
After going through the flight registry, he was told that I was not on the plane. I hadn’t boarded the plane. My father was furious. He wondered wat could have happened to me. How come I didnβt board the plane. Could it be something might have happened to me on my way to the airport? Could I have been kidnapped? He asked for access to the CCTV cameras of Saturday, around the time that I was supposed to be at the airport. Since he was an important man, the camera footage was made available and he was able to see that I was indeed at the airport.
He called my mum and told her about the situation. When he told her that I was at the airport but didnβt board the flight, it dawned on my mum that if I hadnβt gone, then it could only be for one reason, Belcy. When she told my dad that, he cursed aloud and blamed himself for haven not been able to consider that possibility. In a feat of rage, he got into his car and drove straight to Belcyβs house.
