Bruce looked at the paper in his hands, his eyes darting from one line to another in a hurry, as he scanned through the document.
βSweetheart, is this for real? Am I really going to be a father now?β Bruce asked this wife, excitement overwhelming him, and building a large sized lump in his throΓ t.
βYes honey. God has deemed it fit to bless us with a seed, a fruit of our love.
βFirst, He gave me you, and empowered you from creation to be the one who upholds me and brings the best right out of me.
βHe gave me a father figure in the person of the man I have always known as father, even when I was born out of a reproachful affair between my mother and a cΓ»rsed chief priest.
βThen he chose to make me have something to show for the nights of passion, and days of endless loving you have given me in such a short while
βGod didnβt let me have to worry about what your mother would do, when she knows that we’re now together, and comes up with the demands for a grandchild
βWho am I to deserve all the love God has chosen to bestow on me?
βWhat did I do in my past life to deserve a man like you, and the goodness of God upon me?β Tracy asked, tears of joy flowing down her pretty face.
Bruce hugged her tightly, kissing her forehead as she looked up at his face.
He was too overwhelmed to speak, so he let his kisses show her how happy he was to hear that God had chosen to bless their union with a seed.
βIt is time to meet your daughter in-law mumβ Bruce thought with excitement, fully prepared for the drama he knew would ensue between him and his mother when she meets his wife.
Meanwhile, as Bruce and his wife were celebrating the news of her pregnancy, Drake was shaking in both rage and confusion, at the news Samantha had given him.
βHow do you mean the wedding has to be called off because youβre pregnant Sam? What has your being pregnant have to do with my mΓ rriage to Patricia?
βDonβt get me wrong, but you know that I wonβt be able to face the shame and troubles that will come from calling off the wedding, and I told you so before.
βI thought we have already agreed on what to do? Samantha, you know that even if you didnβt get pregnant, I have no way of staying away from you because I love you so much, how much more now that you’re with my first fruit.
βBut please donβt make me have issues with both my parents and friends who are already prepared to accompany me to Patriciaβs hometown for the traditional marriage today.
“What will I tell them? How can I call off a marriage, on the very day of the marriage, with foods and everything already in the marriage venue?
βIt wonβt be fair if you choose to make things this difficult for me, please my love, consider what I have saidβ Drake cajoled Samantha, caressing her face lovingly, and looking at her pleadingly.
βDrake, I have always been the one in the shadows, the one taking everything you throw at me, just because I love you.
βBut if youβre going on to marry Patricia, and make me have to remain a perpertual side chick, then Iβd rather not have the child.
βI’ll get an abΓ΄rtion tomorrow and let myself have a fair chance of seeing a man that will marry me, give me a name, and appreciate me just like I do himβ Samantha said, intentionally trying to provoke Drake.
βI have warned you before of speaking about another man having access to your body.
βYou belong to me, and nobody is ever going on be allowed to touch your bodyβ Drake bellowed, shaking her roughly.
βOh really, I belong to you, and Iβm not to be touched by anyone else.
βBut you my love, you are about to get married to someone else. You are about to get married to a woman who has been bragging about owning you.
βFace it Drake, this our little romance has come to an end. I have to move onβ she told him, looking so serious that Drake didnβt know what to do.
He always knew how to tame Samantha, and make her do just what he wanted all the while, but that day, of all days, she chose to be so obstinate that he couldnβt leave her house, even when his phone wouldnβt stop ringing.
βWhy did she suddenly become this difficult, when all I needed to do back then was tell her how I wanted something, and sheβs doing it right away?β he wondered, as he saw his phone light up again.
Patricia had been calling him for over an hour, but he just couldnβt take her calls because he wanted to be sure that he settled things with Samantha before he headed to the village.
His mother had called earlier to tell him that everyone was already waiting for him, but he had to come up with some excuses why they needed to proceed to Patriciaβs hometown, informing his mother that heβd come behind with his friend who was helping him fix something.
He didnβt plan to spend so much time with Samantha that morning, but after he heard her threΓ ten to terminate the pregnancy she told him about, and get herself another man, Drake found himself staying behind for so long, talking, begging, kissing and ultimately, getting off his clothes to calm nerves.
Bruce hadnβt been quite close to Drake after he met him with Samantha in his house, but after he found out that he was still going to marry Patricia, he had to come all out, with the hopes that Patricia would somehow be able to pull Drake out of the path of shame he was headed to.
But after calling him several times without a response, he became worried, and had to call Patricia to know if Drake left for the village already.
Bruce was shocked to hear Patricia tell him that Drake would be nowhere else but in Samanthaβs house.
He couldnβt believe that Patricia knew about Samantha and Drake, and still went ahead with the marriage.
βErm Patricia, are you being serious with me now? What would Drake be doing in Samanthaβs house, when he knows that I have no intentions of having him bring Samantha and I together again?β Bruce asked, to be sure he wasnβt over imagining things
But then, it turned out that Patricia already knew about Samantha and Drakeβs affair.
He was just hanging up, after accepting Patricia’s plea for him to go fetch Drake from Samanthaβs house, when Drakeβs mother’s call entered.
βPlease my son, Drake said he is with you, but his phone is now unreachable.
βHis uncles are already so tired of waiting for him. I donβt know what to do again, because we wouldnβt have come all the way to our in-lawβs house so early, if we knew he was going to take so much time before he got hereβ the woman complained.
βPlease mama, tell the elders to begin the marriage rites process. We will get to the village in approximately one hourβ Bruce assured the old woman and hung up.
He got into his car, and headed to the very house he swore never to go to again, in his lifetime.
βOh Drake, youβre going to kΓ―ll me!β Bruce heard Samantha screΓ ming inside her house, as he approached.
He kicked the door open in Γ£nger, and stood face to face with Drake and Samantha, digging it real hΓ rd on the couch
βOh yeah, you deserve to be killΓͺd for real, but I do hope that the unfortunate girl that fell in love with this excuse of a friend that I got, wonβt have to suffer for long, for choosing to allow you two evil people stain herβ Bruce hissed and walked out of the house.
Drake ran into the car a few minutes after and Bruce drove Γ ngrily towards Patriciaβs home town without as much as a word for his friend.
Bruce sat in a corner, watching as Patriciaβs father handed her over to Drake in marriage, and he couldnβt hold the tears of pity from falling from his eyes, when he looked at how unattached Drake was with the woman he had always loved and vowed to love till eternity.
