Bruce sat in his ride, thinking about the events of the past few days, thinking about how he had finally made Tracy his wife, without his mother’s knowledge and consent and for a moment wondered if he wasnβt really going overboard with his decision to marry Tracy, against his motherβs wish.
Unconsciously, he began to look back at the level of secrets in Tracy’s family lineage and the kinds of fearful things he went through in this journey to get his wife home.
His thoughts continued to go from one event to another, recalling how he was only able to get the drΓ»nkard to lead him to the shrine.
A smile formed on his lips as he remembered how the man rejected the money he offered him, but quickly accepted some bottles of drink, that the money could have bought him with some extras.
The smile on his face began to fade away, as he recalled how he approached the shrine, and heard the crΓ₯zy Ozonge, telling his woman, about how he must deflΓ΄wer her and get a child implanted in her.
βThe dΓ£mn idiΓ²t! So if Tracy hadnβt been smart enough to take her phone with her, I would have waited for my woman to return to me, only for the dΓ¬rty thing to take away the very thing I have ever been preserving!
βWho knows, maybe he would have made her swear an oath of secrecy too, and make me father a child that isnβt mineβ Bruce thought with Γ£nger, remembering that Tracy’s mother was made to keep something so huge away from her husband
His mindβs eyes saw the exact moment he hit the chief priest off Tracy, and his hand moved involuntarily into the air, replaying his assΓ₯ult.
Bruceβs hand went to his back, when he thought of how he fought with the evΓ―l bird that attΓ£cked him, and how he got hΕ«rt in the process of fΔ«ghting off a bird as little as the owl, and he had a frown.
But then, Bruceβs mind went to the time he made Tracy his, and how incidentally, he was only able to get her out of the shrine, after he had made her a woman.
βApparently, the crΓ₯zy gods that allowed that evil man carry on in ΓͺvΓ―l for so long, wanted to witness me take whatβs rightfully mineβ Bruce thought with a smile.
He was still smiling happily and resting his head on the car seat, as he reminisced on how he was able to make the only woman he loves, get the wedding night she had always wanted, when the driver tapped him to tell him that they were in the hospital already.
He looked up sharply, and could tell that the driver must have been trying to call his attention before.
βThank you so much dear. Iβll only be a few moments. Please hold onβ he told the driver and stepped out to see the doctor.
βGeez! What happened to you Bruce? And how could you have allowed a wound remain unattended to for so long, that it is this infected?β doctor Jude asked him.
βI was away Jude, and I never really gave much thought to this until this afternoon when I noticed it was giving off some offensive odour.
βPlease take a look and know what you can do. I need to go home as soon as possibleβ Bruce told Jude.
βHmm, one of the girls at home today again? But Bruce, you really need to slow down, donβt you think?
“You made us go with you to that village where you nearly got married to a spirit some days ago, when you already had a girl we all thought you were going to marry, and chose to go for another girl.
βSettle down already Bruce, you have played enough, and should be thinking of doing the needful with the woman your friends and family have been hoping that you married, and not moving to another new girl, just after this last oneβ doctor Jude told him, as he attended to the wound.
βYouβre right Jude, this isnβt the time to keep playing around, so I had to settle down. So I decided to take the bull by the horns
βI just got married, and had to do it low key for some personal reasons. So you see why I have to quickly take care of this shΓ¬t and return home before my wife realizes that Iβm this hΕ«rtβ Bruce told Jude.
βOh, so you got married and I wasnβt told about it? Tell me Bruce, since my father dΔ«ed, have I not been the one who took his place in traditional functions like this?
βAnd since my father was your fatherβs only brother, Iβm I not supposed to be the one person that must be told about this move, no matter how low key it is?
βIβm going to call your mother right now, and ask her how she could go with you on such a journey without your kinsmenβ Jude told Bruce, putting down the forceps in his hand.
Bruce realized that he had slipped. The last thing he wanted to do was let his mother or anyone from his family know that he married Tracy already.
His plans was to get her some private tutor to coach her, and make her fine-tuned, enough to be introduced to the social class he belonged to.
He also wanted his mother to know about Tracy, only when she was already pregnant, to ensure that sheβd not be able to do anything about their mΓ rriage.
βI should have thought of going to another hospital!β Bruce thought with a frown, happy that he had his back to his cousin.
βOh please attend to me will you! Youβre always too serious to catch cruise with.
βHow can I get married without your knowledge? I simply have a party to attend, and had to make you hurry up, because if I had decided to come after the party, you could have my headβ Bruce said, laughing really hard at his cousin.
βYou play too much Bruce? See how you got me all riled up for nothingβ Jude said, and began to attend to the wound again.
βBruce, I donβt know why I feel really off about this wound. The cut isnβt so deep, yet it is looking so bad.
βAnd was it not a few days ago we went with you to marry that spirit girl? How could an injury you sustained after then, look this infected?
βWhat even happened to you?β Jude asked Bruce, after he had applied to stuffs he needed to use on the wound, and had skillfully covered it with swabs.
βJude, I told you I have a party to attend, Iβll see you when I can. But right now, I have to run!β Bruce said, and rushed out of the office, his mind preoccupied with thoughts of how Tracy could be faring with the things in the house.
βI hope the reason she was asking me how the gas cooker works isnβt because sheβs planning to cook!β he thought as he sat in the car, on his way home.
Back in the house, Tracy was really tired and wanted to go to bed, but she knew that she had to prepare dinner before her husband returned from wherever he went to.
She was in the kitchen trying to cook something very easy and quick when she heard the doorbell.
βOh, heβs back so soon? Maybe he didnβt really go farβ she thought and began to dry her hand on the kitchen napkin on the door.
βIβm coming honeyβ Tracy shouted, rushing to the door, and opened the door instantly.
She was shocked to see the person at the door, and just didnβt know how to react.
Tracy opened her mouth to talk, but shut it. She looked up again, and tried to speak, but the hΓ te in the gaze she was getting made her vocal cords unable to produce sounds.
βWhat are you doing here, you little wΓ―tch? And why are you just moving your lips without making any sounds? Have you already teleported to your coven and left your body here?β Tracy heard the harsh voice, and rhe reverberating of the voice in her head, fetched her mind from the far away places it had gone.
