“Some one get me a scissors” Lucas said with rage.

“Do you know who I am, how dare you push me inside this smelling pothole water!!!” Debra shouted at Lucas. She could perceived the odd smelll of the pothole water on her body.

Lucas was about descending on Debra again, but Adrian held his hand. “Let go of me, Adrian” Lucas said, boiling in anger.

“You have done enough Lucas, please pardon her” Adrian said.

“Really? I should pardon her? You saw what she did to my best friend, right? Simply because she’s blind doesn’t mean she should be treated like trash, and you made it worse by doing nothing. I thought you love Jane, so why can’t you fight for her!!!” Lucas yelled at Adrian.

“I love Jane. I really do Lucas, and of course I can fight for her, but hitting a girl is the hardest thing for me to do. So please Lucas, you have done enough” Adrian said.

“Are you doing this because she’s your ex-girlfriend?”

“Are you just going to leave me in this mud?” Debra asked when she saw Adrian leaving.

The students who were watching burst into a thunderous laugh.

“Stop laughing at me” Debra said, crying.

≤ LUCAS’S HOUSE ≥

Jane stared into space as Lucas treated her injured knee. “Does it hurt?” Lucas asked, but no reply came from Jane.

“Are you mad at me?” He asked, and Jane nod her head slowly. Lucas sighed and sit beside her.

“What exactly are you mad about? Is it because of what I did to Debra, or I leaving without Adrian?” Lucas asked.

“Both”

“I regret raising my voice at Adrian. I was angry and that’s why I shouted at him. But I hurting Debra, I don’t regret it. I’d have shave her hair if I was giving a scissors”

“Since when did you start raising your hand on a girl?” Jane asked.

“I won’t get into trouble Jane. Debra deserves what she got from me, so please bestie stop being mad at me, because I don’t regret doing what I did to Debra” Lucas said, wrapping his hand around Jane, and Jane smiled.

“I am not mad at you anymore, Lucas” She said, cutely and Lucas smiled, playing with her nose, and Jane laughed.

Grace entered the house and Lucas look at her.

“Lucas!”

“You didn’t go to school today?” Lucas asked.

“I did. I came back an hour ago, because I stepped out to get something” Grace said, showing him the nylon bag in her hand.

“Hi Grace” Jane said with a smile.

“Jane! You are here” Grace said and Jane nod.

“I will just be in my room” Grace said walking towards her room door, but she stopped halfway.

“Ah before I forget, there’s a handsome boy outside our house. He said his name is Adrian, and that he can’t come in because Lucas is mad at him” Grace said, before going to her room.

“Alright then, let’s go talk to your crush” Lucas said with a smile, helping Jane stand up to her feet.

They went outside and sees Adrian resting his back on his car bonnet.

“Adrian” Lucas called his name.

“Lucas, I am sorry for what happened, I should have done something about it, it’s just that….. ”

“It’s fine Adrian. I’m sorry I shouted at you earlier. I shouldn’t have done that. I understand where you are coming from” Lucas said, and Adrian smiled.

He went to Jane and hugged her. “I am sorry for what happened earlier, Jane. I am so sorry” Adrian apologize sincerely, even if he didn’t do anything wrong.

“It’s not your fault Adrian. Don’t apologize for anything” Jane said, and Adrian disengage the hug.

“Are you hurt?”

“No, it’s just a small cut on my knee”Jane said cutely and Lucas smiled.

“So what are we going to do with that ex-girlfriend of yours, because I know she won’t stop until she has what she wants?” Lucas asked.

“Does that mean she will continue hurting my bestie?” Lucas asked.

“I will put an end to that” Adrian said.

“How?” Lucas asked.

“I will help Jane pay for her eye surgery”

“Yes I will Jane. I have already talked to a surgeon I know, and he’d be back this weekend. He said he will commerce treatment on Jane after he check her eyes structure” Adrian said.

“Lucas, I will be able to see again” Jane said with so much excitement, and Lucas smiled.

“I appreciate your help Adrian. Jane is not an orphan, which means that her mom needs to agree to this. And as I have told you before, Aunt Roseline hates the McBroom family,”

“Why does she hate Adrian’s family? You even lied to my mom that he’s from the McDonald’s family” Jane said.

“Because your mom hates his family. I don’t know why, but she gets furious anytime that name is mentioned” Lucas said.

“Should I tell her the truth then?” Adrian asked.

“No don’t Adrian. It’s just going to make things worse. We already started off with a lie, so we should continue with the lie”

“What should we do then? I really want Jane to see again” Adrian said, and Jane took in her lips, because she also wants to see again, living in the dark for years was already tiring for her.

“You know this Doctor so well, right?” Lucas asked, and Adrian nod his head.

“Then you have to make him act as a charity doctor who wants to help Jane”

“Why Lucas” Adrian asked.

“Aunt Roseline is the queen of questioning. If you tell her you are the one who wants to help Jane see again, she’d ask lots of questions, and even went to the extent of saying she wants to see your family, which will result to her finding out the family you belong to. She must not find out you are from the McBroom family, until we’re able to find out why she hates your family and resolve the issue” Lucas said.

“I agree with you on that Lucas. I will talk to Doctor Ben, and I am sure he’d agree to it, I just need to convince him with lot of money” Adrian said.

≤ DEBRA’S CONDO ≥

Rebecca rushed inside the house and sees Debra sitted on the floor crying.

“What happened to you, Debra?” She asked, sitting beside her.

“Are you trying to say you are no longer on the internet?” Debra asked, crying.

“I was busy the entire day, what happened?”

“Just like you have instructed, I went to Jane’s school to confront her, but her bestie friend pushed me inside the mud. I have been bathing for hours, but I can’t get that odd smell out of my body. I’m ruined” Debra said, crying.

Rebecca brought out her phone from her expensive Dior bag. She went straight to the internet, and her eyes widened when she saw Debra mixed with the potholes water, and a lot of people were commenting “Debra in the mud”

“I’m sorry Debra, I didn’t know this was going to happen. Don’t worry Debra, I will make sure that this video is taken down from the internet. Don’t cry anymore ok” Rebecca said, cleaning her tears.

“What should we do now Aunt. It seems like Adrian love Jane so much”

“I already talked to Doctor Ben, and he agree to it” Adrian said.

“Don’t say that Jane. I love you and that’s why I want to do this. I want you to see again, so you’d be able to achieve your dreams” Adrian said.

“But still I owe you big time. My mom may not approved of me having a boyfriend, but I’d go against her just to be with you, but I’m sure she’s going to under where I am coming from”

“I thought you won’t ever come back home?” Rebecca said, when Adrian came home.

“Do you want me to leave again?” Adrian said, trying to leave the house, but Rebecca held his hand.

“Let’s not be on cold feet with each other Adrian. I miss my son so much”

“You are the one who started the conflict between us, mom. Why can’t you just understand that I don’t want Debra anymore?”

“I am going to understand you from now on. You love Jane, right? Then I won’t stop you for being with her”

“Are you being serious mom?” Adrian asked, smiling.

“I love you so much son, and that’s why I won’t stop you from following your heart” Rebecca said, and Adrian hugged his mom.

“Thank you so much mom”

“It’s nothing Adrian, anything for you” Rebecca said.

“I will be in my room” Adrian said, and leaves for his room.

“It’s so easy to fool my son, which means it will be more easier to fool him when I strike” Rebecca said, and smirked.

“Are you sure about this? What if she’s pulling a fast one on you?” Lucas asked Adrian over the phone, after Adrian told him about his mom’s words.

“My mom loves me, she won’t do about to hurt me” Adrian said, smiling.

“I know she’s your mom, but a dog’s nose never turn white no matter how hard you watch it. I just want you to be careful, because I won’t hesitate to fight back if she does anything to Jane”

“She won’t Lucas. Let’s just focused on helping Jane regain her sight, and then I will try to win her mom’s heart” Adrian said, smiling.

≤ SOME DAYS LATER ≥

Roseline kept looking at Doctor Ben who was sitting opposite to her. Lucas and Adrian were in hot seat because they were curious to know what her answer could be. Jane kept gulping down hard, no one was talking, so she kept wondering what was going on.

“You want to help my daughter with her eye surgery?” Roseline asked. Doctor Ben look at Adrian before talking.

“Yeah. Like I said, I am from the state government hospital, and we are offering Charity to people who needs them. Jane is blind and that’s why I am offering my help, so she can see again”

“You want to do it for free?”

“That’s why it’s called charity ma’am” Doctor Ben said, and Roseline looked at him.

“Don’t worry ma’am, her eye donor is ready, and within a week, her eyes will be fixed” Doctor Ben said, and Jane crimped her hand under the table, eager to hear what her mom will say.

“Jane, do you want to do this?” Roseline asked, and Jane quickly nod her head.

“We are in” Roseline said, and happy smile appeared on Adrian, Jane and Lucas’s face.

≤ A WEEK LATER ≥

Jane’s eye surgery was successful, and today happens to be the auspicious day to remove the bandages from her eyes.

“Lucas, where are you? Jane’s bandage will be removed soon” Adrian asked.

“I am stuck with traffic. Aunt Roseline and I are on our way to the hospital, but we are stuck with traffic” Lucas said, and Adrian could hear different cars horning.

“What should I do now?” Adrian asked.

“Tell Doctor Ben to proceed with it, we will be there soon”

“Alright” Adrian said, and ended the call, and he look at Doctor Ben.

“We can proceed with it” He said to Doctor Ben.

Adrian keep gulping down hard, as Doctor Ben carefully loose the bandage wrapped around her eyes. He was just so anxious of how the outcome will be.

“You can open your eyes now” Doctor Ben said to Jane, when he was done loosing the bandages, and Jane slowly opened her eyes. It was darkness first, and after darkness, her version became blurry, and slowly it became clear.

Tears falls down from her eyes immediately she saw what the world looks like. Her world was no longer dark. She could see everything, shinning brightly and beautifully at her.

“Jane” Adrian called her name, and Jane smiled with tears of joy, immediately she saw Adriana’s face.

“Can… Can you see me?” He asked, and Jane broke into tears.

“Yes. I can see you Adrian. I can see now” She said, crying. Adrian walked closer to her, and he cleaned her tears, before kissing her soft lips, tenderly.
