Maria’s POV
It came to me as a shocking news that my brother Jeremy has been arrested by the US Police Force for involving in the rape of a lady named Juliet.
I wasn’t sure of what I heard, because I know my brother can’t do such a thing. Since he was detained in the police custody, I couldn’t reach him on phone to at least, hear from him, his own side of the story.
I decided to go and see him in the police station.
I got there, only to see my own blood brother being maltreated just like an armed robber or a murderer.
He was dehumanized to the detriment of death. Bruises were all over his head and face, that I couldn’t even recognize him, if not for the fact that I knew him by some features which he exhibited.
I also saw a guy with him inside the cell. I didn’t know what actually was the guy’s case, who knows? He was in the same shoes with him.
“Big brother, what happened? Why are you detained in the police custody?”, I asked staring at him.
He didn’t say anything, but was just sitting there adamantly, staring back at me like a lifeless corpse.
I was impatient as I grew green with anger, although I tried to restrain myself.
“What really happened bro, please talk to me, I am your sister?”, I inquired again.
He sighed.
“It’s about my college crush”, he shortly replied, I grew more impatient.
“So? What really happened that led you landing yourself in this police custody?”, I asked, almost shouting.
“When we were in college, I crushed on her. As time went on, I realized I began developing feelings for her.
I didn’t wanted to asked her out, but something triggered me to go on with it.
As I feared, she didn’t accept my proposal and that got me angry, but I didn’t show it up.
We still continued in our relationship just as friends and nothing more.
After few months, we graduated from college, and then I heard that she had a boyfriend.
When I heard this, I wasn’t happy about it, so I planned on how to terminate her relationship.
I had a plan with her boyfriend’s best friend, who is the guy sitting here with me.
The plan was carried out by the guy. Unfortunately for us, we didn’t know our secret got divulged”, he narrated.
“If I may ask, what plan did you both carry out to terminate her relationship?”, I asked.
“It was… it was to rape her”, he uttered.
My mouth fell wide open in shock.

He didn’t respond.
“Why did you have to plot such evil against someone? How do you think she will ever forgive you or tell the police to release you?

“Then what do you think we do to make surely you are released?”, I inquired.
“Going to plead with the police will worsen this situation, but pleading with her will automatically solve the problem”, he responded.
“Do you know her residential address?”, I asked.
“Yes I do. She stays at the government estate adjacent to your apartment. Block No. 5, flat 2”, she elucidated.
“Okay, I will be going there tomorrow morning, and stay safe okay?”, I said.
I was about going out of the cell, when he started coughing. At first, I thought it was just the usual phenomenon.
“Sis, please I need water. I’m seriously dehydrated”, he yelled.
I quickly rushed to get him water, but the security personnel at the gate restrained me from doing so.
“Sir please he is dying let me give him water to moisturize his gullet”, I pleaded.
“Ma’am, don’t dare my patience. Giving of food or substance to any prisoner or crime culprit is prohibited”, he said.
I tried persuading him to allow me to give him the water, but he didn’t let me.
My brother was growing more weak and weak, I could see it. It seems he hadn’t eaten for the day, before he was arrested. Before I could blink my eyes and open it again, he immediately slumped.
The security personnel at the gate entrance quickly carried him on his shoulder to the ambulance.
I also accompanied him. He was taken to the hospital. When we got there, the doctor on duty was compelled to attend to him Immediately.
After the doctor had given him drip through his vein, it took some minutes before he could come back to life.
He was complaining of hunger when he woke up. The doctor quickly said I should get him something to eat.
I went to the canteen to get him some food to eat. The food was brought from the canteen and given to him.
He ate and the doctor quickly administered some drugs to him.
He took the drugs. After everything was done in the hospital, the security personnel took him back to the cell still with the ambulance.
I couldn’t even stand to see my only blood brother being taking away by the police. Tears was already dripping down my cheeks.
I went home to see Elvis watching a movie on Netflix.
He greeted me, but I couldn’t hear him since I was surrounded by the aura of my brother’s current situation.
“Welcome ma’am”, he saluted.
I didn’t say anything, but just walked pass him. He quickly rushed after me and tapped my shoulder.
The moment I turned and looked at him, tears dripped down my cheeks.
“Ma’am what is wrong? What happened to you? Please tell me”, he said.
I couldn’t even utter a word, I just stood still like a sculpture in human form.
