Elvis’ Pov
My boss insisted that I should eat with her, and that really surprised me a lot. I have been serving her for a year and half now, and I have never experienced such.
I wasn’t willing to eat, of course I was already filled up with my favorite delicacy back at mom and dad’s.
I was only trying to eat a little, so she would not feel bad that I refused to join her to eat.
She noticed that I wasn’t eating in such a way she had expected me to.
“Elvis it seems you have lost your appetite. You are not eating at all”, she chipped in.
“Not really, I didn’t lost my appetite ma’am”, I said defensively.
“Stop kidding, if you haven’t lost your appetite, then what makes you not eating much?”, she inquired.
“Ma’am, I ate at my parents house and that is why I can’t eat much again”, I responded.
She was amazed. I was dreaded that she might be angry with me. It was so obvious that all my expectations were disappointed.
“Wow, congratulations. So tell me about what you ate at your parents’?”, she asked faking a smile.
“I don’t have anything to say much about what I ate though, I ate plantain chips and fried chicken recipe”, I said.
“Oh my gosh! Elvis is that really what you ate? Please I need my own”, she said with a lopsided grin.
I was amazed.
“Hahahaha, ma’am how do you expect me to do that? The food has been exhausted and going all the way to my parents house is a journey of a thousand miles”, I enthused.
She said nothing, but just smiled, and when I noticed she wasn’t eating any longer, I took away the leftover to the kitchen.
It was already getting late and I ought be on bed in time.
“Ma’am, I’m about to go to bed, it’s already getting late. Goodnight ma’am”, I said waving at her.
Thinking that I was already a freeman, I immediately made my way to my room when she called me back.
“Elvis why are you going to bed so early, Ihope all is well?”, she asked.
“Yes ma’am. I wanna sleep on time so I can wake up early tomorrow”, I replied.
“I’m your boss, I haven’t gone to bed, and you are about to do so huh. Besides I need company right now”, she uttered amusingly.
“Yeah I know ma’am, but Mr sleep is already tormenting me. So I ought to give him his right before he gets me punished”, I said amusingly.
“Hahahaha, you are so funny Elvis. I really wish to be enjoying your company, but I would let you to go sleep on one condition”, she responded.
“Ma’am what is it?”, I inquired.
“You must tell me at least three jokes before you leave”, she said as I was already melting.
“OMG!”, I bursted into laughter, “but ma’am, I’m not a comedian neither am I an actor”, I said defensively.
“Yeah I’m not naive, but you gotta tell me a joke before you go to bed”, she insisted.
I had nothing to do or say at this point than to tell her any of the jokes I know.
I at the same time was dreaded, due to some of the abusive use of some languages in the jokes which I was about to tell her.
I summoned courage to say as much as I can and face the consequence.
“Ma’am you know that there is an adage which says the beautiful ones are yet to be born?”, I asked.
“Yes I have been hearing about that”, she responded.
“When do you think the beautiful ones will be born?”, I inquired again.
“As at when due”, she said .
“You are not correct. All the people born are not beautiful. They are all ugly, some even look like a vulture. The beautiful ones will be born when the ugly ones will die and go extinct”, I uttered amusingly, as I could observed a movement of her lips.
She was really laughing and at the same time, tears was cascading down her cheeks. I was amused.
“Ma’am why are you crying? It seems you are not happy with my joke right?”, I inquired .
“Nope Elvis, it was definitely funny that I have to laugh out my ribs”, she responded still laughing.
“Ma’am I don’t want you to cry anymore. Please I’m gonna stop here”, I said jokingly.
“You are not going anywhere Elvis, continue with your hilarious jokes”, she insisted, relaxing more comfortably into her seat.
“Alright”, I slowly replied, then continued, “a boy, one afternoon was coming back from school in his mother’s company. He saw a couple at the roadside kissing. Suddenly, he quickly tapped his mother and said, mummy look they are fighting for chewing gum”, I muttered.
She couldn’t even wait for me to end my speech, when she unleashed a notable laughter which I’m sure was capable of disturbing other people in the neighborhood.
“Oh my gosh! Elvis I can’t believe this. You still have to go again”, she said
I sighed, okay.
“A young female secondary school leaver went for a job interview. She was asked the full meaning of Ph.D. and she quickly answered and said, pull him down. She was given a second chance, and this time around she said, pass high school in difficulty. The interviewer fainted”.
She was laughing seriously at this particular joke of mine. Tears was also freely dripping down her cheeks.
“Ma’am why are you always crying when laughing?”, I asked.
“Ohhh God! Elvis that is my own nature. If I laugh too much, I will start shedding tears”, she said.
“Okay”, I nodded, “well, here is the last joke. There is what I have ever wanted to tell you, but the more I develop the balls to say it, the more I feel discouraged to tell you my mind. I don’t know if what I’m going to say will make you feel happy or not. Listen to me, I don’t know how you will feel to hear this, but last week, my puppy put to bed”, I said vibrantly.
She immediately exploded into a wild volcano of laughter.
“Elvis you won’t kill me tonight. We are both going to bed together”, she said getting up, still laughing.
I sighed deeply and immediately rushed into my room biding her goodnight.
