π A Daughter’s Revenge EPISODE FOUR:
Silence prevailed as I was deeply lost in thought. I was just visualizing the whole thing β from what happened and the mystery of me appearing in this strange land. The dream. Then aunty Annatu and the striking resemblance she had with my mother. In fact, the more I tried to figure out the mystery behind the whole thing, the more confused I became.
‘My daughter, take it easy on yourself, eh?,’ Aunty Annatu had to break the silence.
‘No problem,’ I paused. ‘Ehe, I am listening. How did you say you found me?,’ I had to ask again.
‘In the village, we live in a swamp area. So during the rainy season like this, especially when there’s a heavy downpour, every nook and cranny of our village will be flooded,’ she sighed before continuing: ‘After the heavy rain that night, it was the following morning I found you floating like a balloon on the flood in my compound. I raised an alarm and people gathered. The rest was history’, she narrated.’You are a miracle child. In fact, nobody believed that you would be revived back to life because you were completely dΒ£ath when I found you. And your body color had changed to completely white..,’ she added.
Amidst our conversation, the doctor came. He examined me and deemed me fit to be discharged. And as God may have it, a good Samaritan has paid the hospital bills. I was discharged.
Meanwile I had begged Aunty Annatu to take me to the town with her. Because she was not living in the village. She only came for a burial.
She agreed to take me with her. Not even that, she told me how my mother appeared in her dream pleading with her to take me with her. So she had no choice but to do our biddings.
Aunty Annatu had her luggages with her in the hospital. So it was from there we bid farewell to the village and left for the town where she was based.
THREE MONTHS LATER:
Tukum town has been friendly to me. I have enjoyed my stay in the town so far. And Aunty Annatu was an angle to me. But no matter how hard I tried convincing myself otherwise, I still have this feeling that she was my mother.
The only major problem I had was men. No matter how harsh I chose to be to them, they kept flocking me at the back. Literally, every man in that vicinity wanted to have the test of me. The innocent me. But I rejected them. And thank God for I had a lion as Aunty. She indeed guided me with jealousy.
One fateful day, I went to the market to buy what to cook. Because Aunty Annatu went to school. She was a teacher. So on the way back from the market, I felt someone trailing me. Though I did all I could to see the person but the person was smart enough to dolge me. I waved it away thinking that it could be one of those admirers.
So when I got home, I unlocked the gate and went inside. Then locked the gate from inside. Because we were the only occupant of the house β a three bedroom bungalow; self alone in the compound.
Moments later, I began to hear bangs at the gate. Who could that be? I said while checking the time. It was not Aunty Annatu because it wasn’t the time she used to come back from work. Moreover, even if she was the one, she wouldn’t be that mad to be banging on the gate in such a mannerless way.
The person kept banging as if he wanted to pull the gate down. In fact, fear gripped me down to my marrow.
But at the end, I summoned up courage to go know who that was.
When I got to the gate, with fear, I opened the gate.
Guess who.
Behold, It was my ev|| uncle whom I thought was dΒ£ad. The ev|| man who I thought I had escaped from him has resurfaced his ugly face again.
