Moments later, Martha came up with the topic of Mr. Anthony.
‘I am not just happy with the way things are going. Mr. Anthony has no right whatsoever to stop you from doing business in that shop’, Martha complained, bitterly.
‘Don’t worry baby. Everything will soon be settled,’ KC assured.
‘That shop should be open by now. We have stocked the shop,’ she paused, grieving. ‘I don’t like the way you are handling this issue. You are taking this issue very lightly with him. Let me talk to commandant Musa about this issue but you said no. Allow me to cry to him. Let’s deal with that man with force’, Martha lamented.
‘My dear, don’t worry. Mr. Anthony is just being jealous. He cannot do more than a dèad wrath. Because he doesn’t have the power to stop me from making use of that shop,’ he paused. ‘I am in touch with Mr. Fidelis. He is very much aware of the whole thing. He is very angry with the action of Mr. Anthony. He assured me not to worry. That he’s on the matter. And according to him, Mr. Anthony has no right or power to stop me from selling in that shop..’
‘How influential is Mr. Fidelis in this case now considering his proximity? You know Mr. Anthony is very powerful inside that market and he can use his power to influence the whole thing,’ Martha explained. ‘That is the more reason we have to involve commandant Musa into this case. Let him handle it. I know he will handle it well with force ,’ she added.
‘Mr. Fidelis is very influential as far as computer village is concerned. Have you forgotten he was once a Vice President of the market association?. So once a soldier is always a soldier. As I was speaking with him on the phone the other day, he told me that he has spoken to our chairman, his vice and all the committees that would handle the case. In fact, he assured me not to panic. That I will definitely emerge victorious in the case,’ he paused. In sober reflection, he continued: ‘This is a market for God sake. Everybody has the right to sell the same thing his neighbor is selling. This is not a street market where you are not allowed to sell what the other person is selling in the same line of shops’, KC said.
‘Don’t mind that stûpîd man. He just wants to use his power to intimidate and punish you again. That is the major reason we have to involve commandant Musa in this case. So that Mr. Anthony will know that you have somebody in Lagos. So that this intimation will stop once and for all. Because if not, this man will come out tomorrow to start another unnecessary fight with you’, she honestly stated.
‘My dear, I don’t want to involve an external body in this case whereas we have an internal body that will handle the case. Because If I do that, it will be a big slap on the face of the Union. And I am just starting new in the market. So let me not use my hand to create a problem for myself. That is why I want the Union to handle the issue,’he paused. ‘We have to trust the Union. Let’s give them the benefit of doubt. But when the Union fails to do what is right, then we involve the external body into the case,’ KC explained.
‘I don’t trust anybody in that market, including the Union. After all, the so-called Union are the same people we know in the market. And most of them are not even happy for you like Mr. Anthony. Then tell me, how do think you will get Justice?’, she lamented.
‘Like I said before, let’s give them a benefit of doubt. Let’s be civil and diplomatic for now. As for me, I have this strong belief that I will get Justice,’ KC restated.
‘Okay, let your belief save you,’ Martha said.
‘So…’.
The discussion continued. As they continued enjoying themselves.
When the long awaited date the Union fixed to look into the case finally came, the sitting did hold.
It got postponed to another day.
It was when the case was postponed for the second time that Martha totally lost patience waiting. She went and reported the case to commandant Musa herself. Even KC was not aware of Martha’s movement. As for KC, the young man was willing to be patient till the new date of the judgment.
Commandant Musa was very furious upon hearing the intimidation being melted on KC. He then sent for KC to see him with immediate effect.
KC didn’t hesitate to honor commandant Musa’s call.
Musa wanted to hear from KC first before taking any action.
Kelechi explained everything to commandant Musa. And pleaded with him to be patient and not to react yet.
KC gave Musa reasons why he wanted to be civil and diplomatic with the case.
Commandant Musa saw reasons with him. Then he encouraged KC to keep him updated on the case. Not just that, commandant Musa had to call the chairman of computer village who happened to be his very good friend. He expressed his concern about the case. He as well expressed his disappointment in the intimidation being melted upon his son, KC, inside that market. Musa also called upon the chairman to resolve that issue as soon as possible or else, he would fully interfere with force.
The chairman pleaded with commandant Musa to be patient and promised him that the issue would be resolved with immediate effect. He promised him that he would personally champion the judgment. He assured Musa that there would be no cause for alarm.
The case was indeed settled with immediate effect. As the chairman championed the movement.
Kelechi was asked to go ahead and open the shop and start his business.
Not just that, the chairman ensured he restored peace among them. And after all was said and done, there was total forgiveness. Peace was made. And KC went down on his knees and received the blessings of Mr. Anthony. He honestly prayed for him. Then made a pledge to support him with a huge sum as a means of settling him.
And the following day, KC invited a man of God to come pray over his shop. People witnessed the grand opening. As the pastor prayed and declared the shop opened in the name:
Of the father,
And of the son,
And of the Holy Spirit.
Amen!
The crowd chorused in excitement.
The opening ceremony ended with merriment. As there were lots to drink.
