🙎 A Daughter’s Revenge EPISODE TWENTY FOUR:
The bank I went to was the one inside the market. I visited the bank in the morning. Though I had to open the shop first, then wait for Oga Mba to come to shop before leaving.
I don’t even know who alerted Oga Mba on what was happening in the bank. And he rushed to the
bank with immediate effect.
He met me in the manager’s office crying bitterly. He held me like a baby while consoling me as I sobbed uncontrollably in his bosom.
‘Martha, what happened?’, he asked.
As I opened my mouth to explain to him what happened, talk couldn’t come out, instead, cry poured out like a river.
Amidst the whole drama, the bank manager had to come in. She assisted me in explaining to him, to the best of her knowledge, what happened.
‘My salaries for the past three years. My life savings. My sweats. All the môñèy I have been saving so as to further my education. Oga, all of them have been wiped off. This môñèy took me years to gather, but look at it now, they sweep my account down to zeros..’, I was crying uncontrollably.
Oga Mba couldn’t help but to console me. He really felt pity on me to the extent he nearly shed tears too. Even the bank manager could not hold her tears too after hearing my plight.
I left the bank that day with my boss with weak feet. I felt very empty as if everything in my body was drained off just like my bàñk àçćôûñt.
A labour of years gone in a twinkling of an eye. That day definitely went down in my memory lane as an unforgettable day of my life.
Oga Mba consoled me not to cry like one without hope again. He went further, encouraging me that once there’s life, there’s hope. He reassured me that my educational goal has not hit a rock. That as long as he’s concerned, he would definitely support me towards achieving my educational goal.
That very day, Aunty Ifeoma had to come to the market to take me home. Because I wasn’t myself again. Oga Mba would have dropped me home himself but there was no one to leave the shop under the person’s care as his wife didn’t come to the shop that day. So he had to call Aunty Ifeoma to come take me home herself.
I wept bitterly at home that very day. Aunty Ifeoma could not help but to join me.
I crîèd till I slèpt off.
I have accepted my fate wholeheartedly. Though I had no option than to move on with my life. What has happened has happened. Like my boss always said, as long as there’s life, there’s hope. That it’s only a dèàd man has no hope again.
Meanwhile the incident in the bank trended like wildfire online. My pictures and videos of the drama in the bank that very day crowded every nook and cranny of the internet.
In fact, I became a celebrity overnight. To the extent many content creators came to seek my permission for interviews.
I granted an interview to many of them. I left no stone unturned while narrating my ordeal and even my background.
However, my plight attracted lots of public sympathy.
One funny thing was, everyday, I read different things on the internet, especially monetary compensation given to me by people. Millions of naira. In fact, I became a millionaire online while the opposite was the case offline. All were audio. Even the well-trended scholarship rumor to study in Canada never sees the light.
Although I still got above five hundred thousand naira. Some of these content creators compensated me.
I bought a form from one of the famous higher institutions here in Lagos. However, I successfully applied for admission to study Business Administration. I went for a weekend session.
Finally, the admission lists came out one after the other.
Luckily, I found my name in one of the lists.
I was very much happy. Even Aunty Ifeoma, Oga Mba and his family, all celebrated with me.
The journey started.
